good evening folks.....i am so glad to have a place to go.......i am very new to all this and do not have the appropriate vocabulary, but i'm sure
you will catch my drift......

i had endometrial cancer (stage 2) in 1990 and have been cancer free since then. at that time i was offered some kind of chemo afterwards and refused it
because i was told that my chances of survival were 50-50 whether i did
chemo or not........

i recently went to a new gyn..(my old one had died)...and because i had
previously had cancer, she ordered a cat scan...evidently her normal procedure. A few hot spots showed up, among them a suspicious tumor
in my lung....and 2 small suspicious tumors in pelvic soft tissue..(i think
soft tissue---certainly not bone)...

i then had a pet scan w. the same results. i then had a lung needle biopsy
---yeow!!! that really hurt something FIERCE!!! now i have to get
pelvis needle biopsys next week and i SO DREAD going through the same
pain again. god!

my question for the moment is: why cant they knock me out? like when
you get a colonoscopy? the doc's all say, "oh, it doesn't hurt that much
...." right it doesnt hurt THEM.

all i got for the lung thing was a little swipe of lidocaine on the surface...
but the pain was excruciating on the INSIDE. can i get the docs to give me something for the next round of tests... or take something by mouth
beforehand???? if yes....like what?

also.....
i do understand the potential--if it's only the lung, then they will operate,
period, finished, the end. (bad joke) but if the "adenacarcinoma" has
metasticized, what am i probably facing in terms of treatment?

thank you. i look forward to your kind, but realistic answer.

Hi

Thanks for your post. One thing that I've said before is: no one has to feel pain. There are so many medications and anesthetics available, that I can't understand what the deal is to give local anesthesia. Doing sedation is sometimes more complicated, if you're healthy that's fine, but if you have multiple other problems it could cause problems with breathing or even heart issues.

Anyway, you can always ask for sedation and more pain relief. Explain your experience with the lung biopsy.

I hope all goes well.

regards.
Leo

thank you, dr. l....

i will follow your suggestion....i cant understand it, either. i mean it wasn't
even that my cooperation was needed in terms of...breathe/dont breath....all i was supposed to do was lie still, and breathing was allowed.
.....again, i'm sure it will be alot less godawful the next time.

i am grateful.
