I ended up taking my mom to McMaster in Hamilton yesterday. The day before I went to our "yahoo" hospital here in town and got all the film they had to date and all the data and paperwork. When I got enough nerve to open it and read it, it's amazing how different some of the write ups were as to what we were told about tests etc. taken, at the time. The radiologists certainly cover their butts pretty well in their write ups by using "it could be ..." or it could be "...." "And we must not rule out.... because it could be that as well." Anyway, I took my mom to emerg. because she had no refurral. So we used the excuse that she was in pain (which she was=moreso after all the prodding of the 'putting in the tube' episodes on Friday.) There was NO 6 hour wait in the waiting room and NO another 3 hour wait in the observation room when we got in. Within 10 minutes we were in the emerg. with an md being asked questions. Blood tests were done and they assured us that my mom was not in any "immediate" danger. There was no infection in her blood...In 9 hours there yesterday we accomplished more than we did in 9 days here in town. She was seen by 2 mds and a surgeon. They reviewed her paperwork and films. The surgeon explained that he was the bowel surgeon on call, so did not feel comfortable making an evaluation since a liver specialist is she needs.
She doesn't have a fever, she hasn't lost an unusual amout of weight lately, she is eating well, she's not nautious, she hasn't got bowel problems, her urine is normal, her lungs are normal, her bloodpressure is fine, her heart is fine, she is not changing colour, ....basically no symptoms except when she lies down it's uncomfortable on the right side. (great...but cancer is described as the silent disease..that's why the waiting is hurting so!)
Anyway this oncall surgeon said that the paperwork and films I brought in would be on the liver specialists desk within the hour and when we got the results of the biopsy...to have the dr. here send the report there and they will be contacting me about next steps. Anyway...our foot is in the door now...I may have gotten my hand slapped and told that the procedure I took with mom yesterday was wrong...but she's my mom and ...her foot is in the door...who knows how long she may had to wait for these drs. here to get their act into geer and arrange an appointment with a liver specialist even if the results of the biopsy turn out to be the worst.....thanks for the ear/eye God Bless you all.

I am so glad you took her to the emergency room at a bigger hospital and things are starting to move forward for your mom. It is sad we have to be so pushy and maybe tell those things we have to tell to get the medical care we need but hay if it works go for it. I wish your mother well.
