My husband was diagnosed yesterday with inoperable P.C. His tumour markers remain low at 370. Prognosis is 6-18 months. We have been referred to the cancer clinic, for treatment. No mets anywhere yet, which is a good thing. He is very upbeat at the moment and I think he has expected this for a few months.I don't have any idea what the process is but everything I've read doesn't have a very good outcome. He would like to go on a trip but he is unable to walk too far, needs a bathroom available readily. Any suggestions? Taryntige

Oh taryntige, I am very sorry about your husband's cancer. Pancreatic Cancer is one of the worse cancers that a person can have. It has such a negative impact of the person's quality of life. It is also very aggressive and therefore should be treated very aggressively.

Without knowing what stage it is, it is hard to comment on his prognosis. I have know others with stage IV that lived for almost 2 years. I am sure there are those who have lived longer, but not too many.

As I always do, here is my take on prognosis. If my original prognosis had been right, I would have died at least 5 years ago. I do like to know my prognosis but only in order to set realistic priorities for the things I still would like to do with whatever time I still have. After setting those priorities, I try to forget my prognosis and just live one day at a time working to achieve those goals. I know that this is easier said than done... especially so soon after receiving the diagnosis.

Here is a link to a website of one of our "long term survivors." Unfortunately, Marty (freeio) died last fall but he was an inspiration to a lot of us.
