Hello,

I talked to my mom last night and she sounds very good, very positive and she is aware of everything. She is having chemo right now (2nd session) in Costa Rica -she needs 4-6 sessions every 3 weeks-. She is accepting what's going on and eating very well -she says I have to be healthy-.

It's been tough for my family, my dad is working and taking care of her as well as my two sisters and aunts. I'll be there tomorrow night and I can't wait to see her.

Thank you everybody for your support, I feel very happy to had found this forum. Please don't stop writting!!!

You are in my prayers.

Tica

Hello everyone,

My mom is doing very well. She has her first oncology visit since she started chemo this coming Thursday. The doctor is going to be looking at the CT Scan of her liver and new lung X rays that she had done last week. Praying that the results show progress toward healing.

God bless,
Tica

-Age and gender if not clear.
- Age of diagnosis or time since diagnosis
- Specific type of cancer (small cell, non-small cell, others)
- Treatments: surgery, chemotherapy (if possible with names), radiation, etc.
- Please state your question clearly

Since Leo suggests to write more info about the patient (in this case my mom), I'll answer these questions.

She is 48 yo.
She was diagnosed July 3rd, 2008.
She has Adenocarcinoma, her right lung collapsed and don't know yet about mets. I remember reading T4 on her chart but I'm scared to ask more about it.
Her tx right now is chemotherapy -4-6 cycles every 3 weeks-.

And my question is: How bloody bowel movements can be related with the treatment or/and cancer?

Thank you,
Tica

Hi Tica,

Glad to hear your Mom is doing well with the chemo, but this blood is disturbing.

Some chemo agents can cause you to have diarrhea and this in itself can cause enough irritation for small capillaries in the intestine to rupture and bleed. I would urge you to make sure your Mom reports this change IMMEDIATELY to the doctor. With blood counts dropping from chemo itself, there isn't any room to be losing blood from other issues.

It may also not be related at all, but call the doctor. She should be checked.

Please keep us posted and we'll pray for the best.

Hugs,
PBJ

Thank you PBJ,

My mom has an app. today with her oncologist, I'm sure she will ask him about the bleeding. It makes sense what you say.

The doctor will be looking at a CT Scan of her liver and new X rays of her lungs. This is her first appointment with the oncolgist since she started chemo, I'm nervous.....I'll call her later to see what he said.

Tica

Tica and Dano,

Hahaha --- sometimes we get our minds so focused on the cancer that we fail to see the "normal" stuff that everyone gets!

I should have also said that chemo agents can also be terribly constipating and especially any pain meds. Stool softeners were often the order of the day for certain chemo regimens for my hubby.

Hemorrhoids -- thanks for clearing up that mystery Dano -- I think. Shocked

Hello everyone,

Correct......the blood stuff on her stools was nothing serious.

My mother went to her oncologist yesterday (Thursday) and he didn't get the paper work on time from the hospital due to a workers strike or something. He did check her lungs and they sound fine. She has only lost 2 pounds in over a month, so that was great! We still don't know about metastasis yet....My sister is getting back to me about that.
So far chemo is doing well, side efects are tolerable, no vomiting at all. She boosts her inmune system for 10 days in a row after the chemo and stay indoors resting. After that, she goes to church and some uncrowded places.

He mentioned some nuclear medicine for her bones next November, I don't know what this means....But I wonder if there's mets there. I hope not!

God is walking this journey with us, it's not easy....But we can see his hand over my mom, she looks very good and she has the same sense of humor. Sometimes she gets down but she tries to keep going. Stronge lady!!!!!

God bless you,
Tica
