Hi Everyone,

Sorry I haven't been posting. I have been trying to keep up with reading all the new posts. I was in a major slump there for awhile.

In the last 10 days or so my husbands vision has really deteriorated. He has gone from being able to read large print without his glasses to not being able to read it at all.

He saw the Radiation Oncologist this morning and he said it can't be the radiation. So what can it be? The Chemo? Inhalers?

He had a brain MRI on July 10th when he was in the hospital and it didn't show any mets. Could it be something like that? Coming on that fast? He doesn't have any headaches or any other head type symptoms.

I would appreciate any information I could get. He will see his regular oncologist on Monday before he starts round 3 of his chemo. Monday is also his last day of Radiation!! Hurray Laughing 35 total.

My prayers and thought are with you all.

Bernice

I wish I knew what to say. My mom experienced a decline in her vision but her biggest problem was her hearing got really bad to where she had to have the sound turned up almost full blast on her TV. She did have brain mets though and I attributred those problems to the brain mets. Brain mets can cause some really squirrely symptoms.

Same here Bernice,

Mom has been having increasing vision problems, she saw her eye guy yesterday (regular visit re: her macular degeneration) and he told her he's ruled out eye problems, that it must be related to her cancer.

(This thrilled her, she cried when she told me, saying "my eyes are ok, it's the cancer, so it'll all get better when this all goes away..."
What else could I say but "oh good!!"?)

Congrats on his radiation graduation, best of luck on the vision problem, hope you get some answers soon.

Thinking of you both,

Liz

Bernice,

Has this occurred shortly after a chemo infusion? I'd call the doctor to be sure. We were told not to go running for a new prescription for my husband because chemo will make vision blurry. My hub's had a lot of trouble reading far away things -- like the news crawl at the bottom of the TV. His would come and go during the chemo cycles -- but it was bad much of the time.

Double check with the doctor --- better safe than sorry.

Sorry I haven't been around for everyone either. I've also in a slump.

Hugs,
PBJ

Hi Bernice,
I am so sorry for your hubby's eye problems. I wish I could help.
Please take care of yourself too, you need all the strength you can get. I have been in a slump too but am trying to pull myself out of it. I will pray for you and your hubby in the hopes things return to an upward swing. Hugs.

My husband's vision changes after chemo. He didn't comment on vision problems during radiation. Eye doc says to wait until after to chemo to see if he needs glasses. It comes and goes after each treatment. Hope this helps.

I cannot get over here everyday to post, but I think of all of you that have been posting more recently, that I have read. Hang on. You never know what tomorrow may bring.

PBJ; Just take small steps for wherever it is that your life is going to take you. Check and see if you are in a rut. Maybe you need to make yourself do 'something' just to motivate you. It is so easy to slip 'down' but so very hard to pull ourselves 'up'.

Best of luck to all of you.

Hi
I have found that my husband can hardly see now...He keeps staring the wrong way when we talk..No-one has said but I think his eyesight is very limited, if not sometimes zero!

He did have problems with chemo, but I think he picked up when it stopped because he started to read the newspaper over the net!

I hope your husbands condition will improve after the treatment is finished..
God Bless, thinking of you..Koik

Thank you all for responding on my husbands vision issue.

We saw his oncologist on Monday before he started his 3rd round of chemo. The Dr said it could be from chemo and if it doesn't get any better to see his eye Dr.

Also his blood work came back and the counts are dropping Crying or Very sad They said they will have watch his hemoglobin and he may have to have a transfusion. It is at 10 right now and he told us that if he gets weaker or his breathing gets worse he needs to go in. My understanding is they won't let it go lower than 8. That coming from his chemo nurse. God bless those chemo nurses. They are so special and devoted to all their patients. The neulasta shots seem to keep his white blood cells at the low of 4.0.

On a better note, my husband has now completed his 35 radiation treatments. The only thing we know at this point is that it has not shrunk very much. That from the Dr looking at the daily snapshots that they take priori to treatment. They will wait 6 to 8 weeks before doing a scan. By then his last round of chemo will be done too. Then it is on to another stressful waiting period Rolling Eyes

God Bless all of you and thank you all so very much. I keep you and all your loved one's in my prayers. We are all on or have been on life's toughest journey... in my opinion. I am just trying to take one day and one symptom at a time.

God Bless & (((((Hugs to all)))))

((((Bernice))))),

I'm sorry to hear that the vision is still an issue for hubby. Now the counts too? Bahhhhhh... If it isn't one thing with this yucky disease, it's another. <sigh>

I sure hope that the next scan shows that the rads and the chemo are working. I'll be praying for good things.

Does he use Procrit at this time? Chemo nurses are the best. You really get the scoop from them about everything.

Are you feeling any better? I sure hope so and know how bad these slumps can be. I did more crying out on my front porch during my husband's illness than Carter had little liver pills. (Now why that antiquated saying flew off my fingertips is anybody's guess! Shocked )

Glad to hear the radiation is over. Is he useful now as a nightlight? I used to kid my hubby that if he started glowing at nighttime, I'd throw a lampshade over his head. Gotta keep that sense of humor Bernice, it will be your saving grace. Add a lot of God into the mix and you'll get through somehow -- even when you don't think you can handle the emotions another day.

Many hugs,
PBJ
