Hello Everyone
Firstly an update - My ex is currently having 25 treatments of radiation to the pelvic area over a five week period for a tumour that is in his sacro spineal notch area and this was causing great pain when he tried to stand or walk. The treatment is at the same time as a low dosage 5FU plus Avastin given 24?7 by pump. The side effects are rather uncomfortable for him but today he was able to walk for about 20 minutes and walk up some steps so that is a huge imporvement.

After he finishes this treatment he will have a week or so with no treatment to let his body rest and then he is going to have radioactive spheres injected into his liver they are called SIRT. I can't seem to find much on the success rate of these spheres or how long they give you before the tumour start regrowing.. They are not a cure but shrink the tumors in the liver which are mets from his bowel cancer.

After this treatment his Oncologist wants to try him on a new chemo cocktail called MAX has anyone heard of this and if so what can you tell me about this. The dr said he has had patients live for a number of years on this MAX chemo.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Thanks in advance for any info you would like to share.
D

Hi Dorothy. I think MAX is a cocktail of Mitomycin C, Avastin and Xeloda. All are know chemotherapy agents. Since I never used any of them, I do not have any personal experience with them. An excellent source of information on medications is http://www.rxlist.com/script/main/hp.asp . I look there often when looking for info on prescription medications. It is rather comprehensive. Hope it help you and John.

Avastin = Generic name Bevacizumab
Mitomycin = Brand name Mutamycin
Xeloda = Generic name Caperitabine

All six names are listed on that site. I have heard about Avastin and Xeloda before but not about Mitomycin.

Great to see your update on John - I am so pleased to hear he is hanging in there and that you guys are still actively seeking new treatments!

Looks like this was a good move for both of you Dorothy - you are a wonderful support for him. I am so appreciating my husband right now - he has driven me everywhere and done so much to help me.....I am sure John feels the same way about you -

Good luck and prayers for you both
