Hello everyone am a newbie here, my name is Elba am 24 year old and live in Los Angeles with my husband 31 years old and our beautiful 1 year old son. We have been together for 7 years now .My husband got diagnose with colon cancer stage 3 in February, 2008 and got Surgery I believe in March to cut part of he’s colon and sewed the rest together. Thanks to God surgery went well he’s been doing chemotherapy since April 2008.Now the Doctor postpone he’s chemotherapy he hasn’t has he’s chemotherapy for a month now because the doctor say’s he’s bleeding internally and has severe anemia .They schedule him for another colonoscopy and endoscopy on September 29, 2008 so we are just waiting .I am very scare why is he bleeding again? What can all of this mean? My husband say’s he feels the same symptoms he use to feel when he has the tumor in he’s colon .I am very scared .Will he survive all of this? I don’t want to loose him I love him very much and he’s my everything. Please any advice impute will help. I am also scared that he is not getting he’s chemo what are the chances he’s cancer could come back during this time?

Hi Elba and welcome to the forum!

I am so sorry to hear of your husband's setback, but do try not to drive yourself crazy with worry. If the Doctor stopped the chemo - then that is to help your husband overcome the other issues. I know my Doc's stopped chemo too when I had bad side effects, they explained that it is too dangerous to keep giving chemo until the side effects are under control.

What are they doing to treat his anemia? Hang in there and make sure you keep talking to his Doctors and ask for explanations - call them up on the phone if you have to. We all worry about cancer returning when treatment stops, I know I worried like crazy that my tumour would not shrink as much when my chemo got stopped. But in the end - you have to put some trust in your medical team. Are they helpful? Do you have good communication with them? Is your husband telling them how he feels and explaining that his symptoms have returned?

Just some thoughts as I really do not know enough to really help you - but keep living for today and supporting him the best you can, it is scary, but we all try to support each other here - so please keep posting.

Cheers and prayers

Elba,

You are so right - your husband is really young to have stage 3 colon cancer, it is shocking how many younger folks are getting this disease. We have several people posting here who are 40 and under - I can imagine it must have just blown you guys away to get the diagnosis.

One good thing though - as he is younger - he will tolerate the treatments better and recover faster. Set backs always seem to happen with cancer - I say STUFF HAPPENS! Every time I make a plan - something else seems to pop up and get in the way of making my goals.
You two will have to learn to adapt, and it certainly will be a challenge.

Hang in there - we will all keep praying for you and your husband.
Cheers
