Hi everyone,
My husband has been scheduled for sugery to remove his right middle and lower lobes that have been affected by squamous cell carcinoma on Thursday, September 4th. I could not be happier that he has a fighting chance to whip this cancer however I know this will not be an easy surgery to recover from.
Some of you know that the journey into lung cancerland began for my husband Danny and I on June 6, 2008. A routine physical at the VA and an "on the ball" doctor suggested a chest xray, "just for the heck of it". The next day we got the results of a mass in the right middle lobe of Danny's lung. From there we were sent to the larger Reno VA Hospital and had numerous xrays, a cat scan, a contrast dye cat scan, a bronchoscopy and a mediastinoscopy with another bronchoscopy. All of this revealed NO lymph node involvement however the tumor in his right middle lobe had invaded his bronchus and as a result the middle lobe had collapsed. So finally we have a staging of 2B for Danny and a scheduled surgery that might(depends what they see when they get in there) end up a pneumonectomy. I pray that this doesn't happen.
I know that there is alot of sadness on the forum lately and I cry when I read the posts. What I have started to do and am ashamed I have neglected to do is to pray to God and thank him for the chance to keep my husband around alittle longer.
Koik,
You are in my prayers alongside the prayers for my husband's recovery. I can't imagine hurting the way you must at this time. Peace to all the caregivers out there.

Hi there
I am right here and I will pray along side with you... Of course its going to get rough as its as painful for you if not more, watching your husband suffering after an op....
He will be out of it, whilst you will be pacing the floor...We will make Thursday a prayer day for you too.
Praying has to come from the heart it cant be just words, they mean nothing...so if lately its been difficult to pray don't feel ashamed or bad because Jesus knows your heart as well as your sadness..

We all have feelings and when the time is right you will start kicking back..you are probably exhausted and having a recap!

Try not to be to hard on yourself and believe he will kick this cancer to hell.. I will be remembering your Thursday, let us know how it goes!

God Bless...Koik

One,

Oh good luck on Thursday! Danny sounds like a fighter, I hope and pray that he will indeed lick this.

Hugs,

Liz

Hello One
I too will be praying for you and your husband and that the surgery goes well.
On the sadness issue, while we are waiting for after surgery news from you, I'll work on some end zone type dances with a few hoots thrown in, I got some good Ideas from watching the movie "The Longshots", I laughed and I cried.
God Bless
Dan

Good luck, onecoyote. I had my surgery at the Dallas VA hospital, and came though it great so, hopefully, Danny will too.

My wife was pretty upset at how bad I looked right after the surgery, but that's normal, and she felt a lot better watching me walk the next day.

Thanks Everyone for your support. You all have been initiated into cancerland so you know the score. I am a newbie to this and wish the initiation ritual was n't so brutal. Too bad we all can't put together a huge cancer forum party so that we could meet everyone.
Thank heaven you all are here though, I don't feel so all alone, it's kind of a vigilante against cancer thugs.
Peace to you all,
Onecoyote

Bernice, if you happen to read this, I am thinking of you and your hubby and hope all is well. Smile

One,

Sending my best wishes for a successful surgery and lickety-split recovery for Danny. Keep taking deep breaths and know we'll hold your hand when he comes home because it gets a little crazy to be a caregiver at that point.

Prayers being sent.

PBJ

Onecoyote,

Thanks for letting your husband and I talk about "Old Guy Stuff" last weekend. It was good to see you both in good spirits with a healthy "Can Do" attitude.

You've prepared well for the caregiver role you face, but please call on PBJ and all the others when needed, 'cause they've been there done that.

The advice you both gave me was sound, I'll do it.

God Bless you both,
Steve
