I'm only 18 and i've been smoking for 8 months. I just recently started getting tightness in my chest. I went to my family doctor for it and when I mentioned lung cancer he laughed. The only thing he checked was my heart and nothing was wrong. So if nothing is wrong and he didnt give me a clear answer what is this tightness? I've been freaking myself out about it thinking its spreading to my throat and my arms. I dont actually know if it is it might just be in my head. All in all, I dont know what to think. I've put myself in a very depressed state thinking this is something it's probably not, and I dont know how to stop worrying myself.

Zachairy,
I would highly doubt that you have developed lung cancer from smoking only 8 months. Have you entertained the thought of quitting smoking and seeing if the tightness goes away?
Lung cancer is known as the "silent killer" and it is deemed that because outward symptoms sometimes never appear.
If your symptoms continue I would find another doctor and have a thorough exam, sometimes it turns out to be a bad case of heartburn. Many conditions have symptoms that are not even in the area of the affected organ, for instance, gallstones cause pain between the shoulder blades, quite a ways from the gall bladder.
Please, seek further medical help and above all....QUIT smoking
Take care,
