Can anyone reccomend a good book for me to check into on Adenocarcinoma, or NSCLC? I would like to find one just in general about the diesease and also a support book I can read for me as the caregiver. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. _________________ My 46 year old mother-in-law diagnosed with NSCLC on September 4th, 2008. Adenocarcinoma stage IIIB. |

There is one book that has a title like "100 questions about lung cancer". They do these books for most cancers. They are pretty generic, but it's a good way for you to get your feet wet with terminology and an overview.
We got it through the doctor's office -- they have supplies of many books on hand. I've also seen these online, but don't remember where. They should be freebies.
That's not the exact title, but close enough to get you a google answer.
Good luck.

Hi Tina;
Another thing to do is get in touch with American Cancer Society either by phone or Online, Some times you may read hand outs in your local Cancer center. They hold meetings all over the country and likely in your own city not far away. My wife and I attended one of these meetings several times and pla to attend more. These people do a lot of the things we do here online they do in the meetings, except meet face to face and eat. There were a lot of things we learned there and it helped us a lot.

Hi Tina,
There is a site Mary told me about called Krames dot com that publishes books the American Lung Association puts out. They have good booklets on lung cancer and a booklet for caregivers for $1.95. They may not be extensive but will give you an inexpensive overview.
"How to Survive Lung Cancer" by Michael Lloyd is also another good book but is based on general lung cancer.
PBJ11 suggested "100 Questions and Answers About Lung Cancer", you can find it for around $2.00 on Half dot com along with the Lloyd book.
Knowledge is Power!
Good Luck,

Hi tbean; I did refer onecoyote to Krames which I really like their booklets. I referred her to a surgical one that my husband and I used. His surgeon gave him his. When I was first diagnosed with COPD, and in the dark, I was given a booklet that was put out by Krames and it was very helpful. Therefore, I do like what they provide.
For cancer, we were referred to the National Cancer Institute http://www.cancer.gov/ and if you click on the link on the left side "NCI publication" it will take you to this page https://cissecure.nci.nih.gov/ncipubs/
The above is one of the better sites I found to use. I ordered several books from here. They are free of charge and can order or download. Shipping did not take long. We had quite a variety. If the subject is there, the book is probably worth ordering. Hope others read this and take note of the website. We really read the ones on Chemo and Radiation (2 separate books).
Best of luck to you. _________________ Mary
