Last year my dad was diagnosed with Prostate cancer. I'm finding it very hard to cope with seeing him become sicker everyday, and this is the first time I've mentioned anything about my dad to anyone outside of my family.
It's so hard to believe that there's actually a large chance of him dying soon, I can't deal with it.
Also, this morning my mum woke me up to call an ambulance because something was wrong with him, he wasn't breathing for a while. I didn't even know what was happening, but it was horrible seeing him having to be taken away to the hospital.
On top of this I'm still in school, with exams coming up next week, and my boyfriend broke up with me about a week ago. I seriously don't know how I'm supposed to cope with all of these things at once. I don't understand why this is happening to my dad, my family and me.
It's getting so hard and I really needed to post this. Does anyone have any advice on how I can cope with everything?

Hello

I am really sorry you are going through this. Have you spoken frankly with your family about this ? You can also talk to your father's physicians and ask for help. I am sure there are resources for you to help cope with this.

best regards,
Leo

Wow, you have a lot going on don't you? That sucks - I mean really.

Are your parents keeping you "in the loop"? Maybe you need to explain to them that you need the truth about what's happening with your Dad.
I have prostate cancer too and even though my daughters are twice your age, it was still hard for me to tell them because I still like to think of them as my little girls and I didn't want to upset them. I knew they'd be a lot more upset if I didn't tell them though. They need to know what's going on and, in my opinion, so do you.
As far as the boyfriend and exams go - well, I don't think I can be much help there. Just take it a day at a time and do the best you can.

Good luck Sweetie.

Hey there. I just read your post and my heart goes out to you. I am in a situation very similar to yours. my dad has diagnosed with esophagus cancer last july. they gave him six months then and a year later he is still truckin. he put up a very good fight, but has recently took a turn for the worse, which sounds like kind of where your dad is too. its tough situation to deal with. its almost like being on an emotionally rollercoaster, which i'm sure you have already figured out. i have my good days and bad and thats perfectly normal. i think the most important thing to do is to be able to express your feeling to your family and friends. make sure and get it all out. it is okay to be scared and sad. if you need to cry, then cry. its not a good idea to leave it bottled in. keep yourself around positive people, turn to the Lord, this is all in his plan, He wouldn't give you something you could not handle. just try and focus on the good things in life. i found that helped me the most. try and make the best of this time with your Dad that you can.

as far as school and boys go. dont sweat the small stuff. i know its hard to concentrate and do good in school, i've been finishing up my last year of college and its been a constant struggle for me. just give it your all, i know that is what your family wants. make sure that your teachers know what is going on and i'm sure they will be understanding. keep your head up sweetie. if you ever need to talk you can email me anytime at kamm1jn@yahoo.com or catch me on AIM at ramensoup. you and your family are in my prayers.

Hello There,

My goodness, you are going through a rough time. A bunch of feelings I guess? There is a cheap book called Chichen Soup for the Teenage Soul. There is also one for C.S. for teens and rough stuff. Just ask someone at the book store, they are popular. Also, you try all the great advice you got from the other folks that wrote to you.

You ever want to talk reaching out here is a good thing. Be good to your self.

Regards,

Pat
