Hi, in Dec. 2005, I went for an EGD because I felt an uncomfortable feeling in my abdomen, upper reflux. My EGD biposy was postive for stomach cancer. The docs thought it may be a small area and therefore take out a small portion of my stomach. I went into surgery, and woke up to be told that they left the stomach in and essentially I was a open and shut case. My cancer was stage 4. All my ct scans were negative, lab test, cancer markers within range. The Pet Scan showed the tumor., and after looking inside the MD said that the cancer was all outside the stomach area and going up my espohagus. They felt that I had a bettr chance of recverign if they left the cancer in and used chemo and radiation to shrink the cancer. I was started on IV chemo, 9 weeks ...pet scan repeated, it had shrank. So I under went 25 tx's of radiation, then placed on xeloda an oral form of chemo. After the pet scan showed no cancer or mets. I was given a year to live and Dec. 15 2006 made the year. By the grace of God and my will fight back am still here. I am currently still on the xeloda it bear with it's sight affects, hand and foot syndrome , generalize bodyaches, fatique. The onoclogist said I can take it until I can't anymore. The hardest part is I'm afraid to stop, its like my security blanket, yet I go thru discomfort when I'm on it. I always hear about all other cancers stories but have not met much of anyone who can share there stories and just to make me know how they feel. Cancer can be so lonely and so scarey. I am back to working full time and keep busy. I have questions that I have never asked becasue I don't feel anyone else may not understand. I love to hear about anyone else's experience with journey with the stomach cancer. I feel so betrayed by own body. Thank you, LCD

Hi,
You are so right, cancer can be lonely and scary. The only people who understand it are the ones who have been through it. But it certainly sounds like you have the fighting spirit, and you're very brave to post your fears here. You're in my prayers.
Love and regards,
Richard Day Gore

What kind of uncomfortable feeling was it? Pain? Aching? That is absolutely wonderful that you were able to beat it back. I wish you many continued blessings.
