I'm new to this forum, I'm 57 year old female living in Yuma Arizona.
Dx with CLL last month WBC at 20 in FEB and 39 in April.

I got sick on New Years Eve with what I thought was just the crud going around, ear ache, temperature, lost my voice, ( which is pretty standard for me ) and was just generally VERY sick. But I just didn't get much better. I went to the Dr. in Feb. and he did blood tests, and gave me some antibiotics. When I went back he said I needed to see an oncologist because he suspected CLL.
My ear / throat still hurt and I am still hoarse or without a voice & my face is swollen.
Ear nose throat Dr says NO infection.
Oncologist has said YES I have CLL , and maybe it's my tonsil (left side) I had my tonsils out when I was 7, but I guess that doesn't matter. I'm having a PET SCAN next week.

What I'm wondering is this....... have any of you CLL'er's gotten cancer somewhere else BESIDES the CLL /???

any help or reassurance appreciated.
Sheribelle

Hi sheribelle, I am going to move your post to the leukemia forum where more people who have had CLL might see it.

First, let me tell you that I am very sorry about your diagnosis. For about the last 4 years I have lived with my father who had ALL. His WBC reached above 100.. we were glad when treatment reduced it to your levels! He did finally die at age 83 last September... his system just could not handle the White blood cell overload.

Believe it or not, it is not uncommon for tonsils to grow back! I don't know the statistics nor the reason why they grow back, but regrowth does happen. However, I assume that your doctor(s) would have noticed that by now (?).

The PET Scan will help them know if any other "hot spots" exist. I think that it would be rather rare to have two cancers... not unheard of, just rare. Since Leukemia is by definition "blood cancer", it can and often does affect multiple organs (kidneys, liver,...).

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you have a good weekend.
