Does anyone know how I can find out what medical trials for bowel cancer patients are availble in Perth, Western Australia. I can't find this information on the Net. Maybe the pharm companies want to keep the trials away from the public eye until they are finalized but my ex husband who has bowel cancer may want to explore this as a treatment option.

He has mets to his liver and I have heard of injections of Sirtex (sp?) that might help. They are very expensive but worth it if they would help improve the quality of his life. Does anyone know about this treatment or have had it?

Avastin certainly seems to have increased his life expectancy from the initial diagnosis. He has had Avastin plus Folfox etc for two years nowI would like to be more proactive in seeking out a range of treatment options once we are back in Perth.

Thanks in advance for any info you can offer.

D

Hi Dorothy. I do not know enough about the Australian medical system in order to find a list or research protocols to even suggest to you.

I have heard a little about Sirtex. It is a type of radiation therapy that is used for localized treatment... such as treating liver cancers. However, I am not really sure if it is in general use to treating metastatic tumors in the liver.

Have you tried to call the Royal Hospital there? That is at least a starting place.

Brillant Angie thanks!

I will check this out later. John's Mum passed away on Saturday so this is another issue to deal with. He LOVED the Bungle Bungles.

Thanks again Jim I will check the hospitals when I get there. The new Oncologist is at St John of John Hospita, they have a new state of the art cancer treatment wing.

Hi

try this page
http://www.gicancer.org.au/trials/open.html
that page has current trials in recruitment phase but links to other trials as well.
The Sydney Uni site had a lot of info but I don't know how relevant it is to you in Perth
