Thanks for the tips Koik!
He really enjoys his pokers nights and now he's back at it, I guess that's a good sign. My mother is taking him to restaurants to see if he eats a little better, I guess he's eating a little more.
I think you're right, maybe after the chemo starts he'll feel less anxious, he's already suffering beforehand. I'm also hiding supplements in everything he eats like power milkshakes hahaha |

Hey guys!
I found out about this forum last year when my father was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer. He had a lobectomy and the tumor was really small, he had one infected lymphnode near the tumor, though. Because he was old, his turning 78 this year, he was only able to go through one round of chemo. He felt terrible. That all happened in July last year. This week, he did his latest CT and it was clear. But, he did a new CEA tumor marker and it was raised again. Now, he's going to star looking for a metastasis, although he pretty much lost hope at this point. I'm trying to keep positive until I'm absolutetly sure of what's going on now... Anyway, it's such a bitch, this disease. It takes an enormous toll on the entire family. My mother is shocked, my marriage is crumbling... Isn't that a bitch? |

Hi Roberto! After years of research and study the one thing everybody concluded is that cancer sucks! But the rest of life goes on as if it don't matter. Sorry you find yourself in such a miserable situation but we are here to help you through it as you share your thoughts and your heart. My prayers are going out to you and your father.
God Bless

Hi guys,
Unfortunatly, I'm back. One year ago my father had a lobectomy for his lung cancer, followed by chemo (which he was unable to complete because he was still very weak). About three months ago, he did a CT that was fine but a new CEA test marked high. We couldn't find out where that was comming from until today. His latest CT accused a compromised lymph node in the same lung he had the cancer, near the place where the lobectomy was performed. Tomorrow he'll have a PET Scan to determine if this is the only compromised lymph node or if there are others, so we can go on with the correct treatment. That sucks, but I'm leaving a message to everyone. Keep a close eye in the CEA tumoral markers, it's normally right... |

Hi Robert, It is good to hear something good about a bad situation, that is it is good to hear that they found the source of the problem, so now we will wait to hear the new from the Cat Scan. Other than that, how is your dad holding up and how are you doing? I'm hoping here for good news.
God Bless

| The scan just finished. That lymph node was indeed infected, but that was the only one. That means that, considering the sucking of the situation, the news are good. His doctors are talking right now to determine what to do, but it seems like it's a new surgery followed by chemo. He's holding up incredibly well. He's a doctor, he found his cancer the first time and he found it again now. He decided to update his CT in fifteen days because he was very worried about the CEA results, although all the doctors kept saying "don't worry, it's nothing". So now he has a better chance of fighting. Since he got ill he's being going to theraphy every week and that's been helping an awful lot! |

| Update: doctors decided to go with chemo first, three rounds starting probably next week. After that, another PET Scan to determine if the lymph node is gone. Let's hope it works... |

Wow Robert, your dad must have good insurance to have two Pet scans that close together. I think it is the most expensive procedure I've gone through and I have only had one in a year and a half, nothing bad about it, I'm just surprised. Hope there is a good out come.

Well, the update sucks.
He started radiotheraphy in the chest ad things were going just fine. He tested positive for taking Tarceva afterwards, he was a perfect match for the pills. Yesterday he felt bad at home and we rushed him to the hospital. Three mets in his brain were found. The doctor said the the combination of radiation i the brain and tarceva would do a good job, but tomorrow he'll have a lumbar puncture because they think the mets had spread the meningis, and that's a grim prognostic. If that is really the case, we can only speculate if the Tarceva will be able to reach it and the radiation will just buy him a couple of months.
I'm getting married by the end of november and I don't know if my dad will be alive to be there... Right now, I'm going through an ammount of anger and desperation I didn't know I had. |

Hi,
I would like to know the follow up of your father's condition....
My dad is 84 and just diagnosed of lung cancer stage IV a month ago....some people suggested due to his age that he won't' be able to tolerate chemo so they suggested him receiving Chinese herbal medicine instead and he flew to China to receive Chinese herbal medicine and that alone. He was better for about a week but it seems like he's doing worse the last week since I left (I flew to see him for 12 days).
Anyway, would like to hear about your dad's condition now....
Sending my prayers your way...
Shannon
