Hi I'm new to the forum and just a bit worried about bleeding so wanted to get some advice really:

My entire life it has been normal for me to only go to toilet twice a week at most but over the last few months I have to go atleast once every day. For the last 3 weeks every time I have been to the toilet there has been alot of blood in my stool or just in the toilet itself. I have been having a mixture of both constipation and diarrhoea and get stomach cramping whenever I need the toilet. I have also had a complete loss of appetite lately, none of this is "normal" for me.

At first I wasn't too worried and put the bleeding down to "piles" as it was bright red blood, but over the last week the blood has become darker and there has been a jelly like substance in it. When the bleeding didn't stop after a few days I got worried and so I have just come back from visiting the doctor.

After describing my symptoms he examined me, he didn't say anything about what he found in the examination he just said because of my age (I'm only 23) it probably wasn't anything too serious I.E. cancer but he would send me to a specialist to find out . Then he mentioned that I may just be suffering with colitis and that if I was they could give me drugs to control it. I am going to get an appointment within the next 2 weeks to see a specialist but I was just wondering what exactly they will do when I'm there, he mentioned examining my colon? I haven't felt "well" for a long long time, I can't even remember the last time I felt 100% and I'm constantly tired and I'm always getting ill. I'm a bit worried that it may be something serious as I really haven't felt well for sooo long.
What symptoms has everyone else had? Do you think I'm worried about nothing?

sorry to hear about your fear of the unknown -but you did see a doctor-which most would reccomend at this time. your specialist will give you the results of your test-If its not normal its always something wrong but doeasnt mean its not able to be controled or cured. If your doctor was really worried he would have sent you straight to emergency. So I would go on the fact of how he responded and look positive for fixable results. cant say dont worry , but have the confidence in your doctor that hes doing the best for you-keep us posted -let us know what your specialists comes up with. then maybe others will be able to share the same problems once we know what its diagnosed at. be strong -thoughts and prayers go out to you and know the forum is always here. they are a wonderfull group of caring people. and as much as they can ,will help you through whatever it is. I know , they helped me alot with emotional release when I discuss my moms cancer stages. and help me understand about what she may be going through.
