Quick update: Diagnosed 6/1/07 Stage IV colon, mets to liver and lungs. After 5 rounds Folfox-6, PET and CT scans showed resolution of colon tumor (remission), dramatic improvement in liver and lungs. My Dr is very optomistic and said I have done better than most.

Went for round 7 chemo 11/29. 20 mins into infusion, I had a bad reaction to the Oxalitplatin: bright red, felt like I was on fire, lungs seizing, hyperventalation, low blood pressure. Mega dose of steroids and benedryl got me back to somewhat normal, spent the night for observation. Now here's what I'm left with.

I feel like I have the mumps. The pressure in my neck area feels like I'm straining, my face turns red and swells up with slight excertion. I went to the triage at City of Hope and the NP was stumped. Anyone else have this feeling? I was on Decadron for 3 days post reaction, no other sypmtoms, just looks and feels like I have the mumps.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated immensely as this feeling is going on 2 wks now.

Thank you!

~Julia

Julia, I am so sorry you had an allergic reaction to the Oxaliplatin. I do not have any experience with colon cancer, but it sounds like you were doing well until that reaction set you back Sad.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
