My son is 12 and is "infested" with dysplastic moles all over his head and body. The doctor says that he does not want to start cutting because it will leave him disfigured. By keeping these moles contained, what do we expect for the future? When I asked the doctor, he said right now we'll just check him every three months to see if there are any changes. Does this sound right?

I'm not an expert or a doctor but from my research your son is at a higher risk of getting melanoma. Here's some info that I have gathered and also put together with my own experience with it as well. Don't be too easy with the doctors if you think something is out of place, I had my first melanoma at 16, and they acted as if nothing was wrong with me, three years of critical time was wasted up until I was 19. I would watch the symptoms. Go here:

Keep in mind however that nodular melanomas often look like new moles and are usually symetrical.
