Hi Everyone,
I have been having irregular BM for some time now. It started with a lot of time spent in the toilet because i always had a feeling of incomplete defecation. And some times I have also noticed pencil thin stools - its not a regular feature but it is there off and on when i feel constipated. Sometimes the BM starts normal but then it stops and if i push (sometimes with fingers) i get thin stools.

I do not have any stomach pains but there has been some mucous whenever there was constipation. Sometimes there is a lot of bloating and gas.

I had lost about 3Kgs since last Oct, but that I'll attribute to Hepatitis (since i was on restricted diet) and for the past 1 month i have gained back 1 Kg.

I used to feel fatigued but that also may be because of hepatitis recovery and also thyroid problems (the treatment of which started 2 months back), but i generally feel fine now.

Usually there is not blood in my stool but at times when I pushed at the rectal walls with my fingers I did see some blood. The texture of the stools are slightly soft and normal colored now (it was slightly pale before).

I am 25 years of age, I do not take red meat, occasional chicken and fish (once a month may be), I have not been very physically active for some years now but recently started excessing slowly (primarily yoga and push ups). There is no known history of colon cancer in our family.

Could all this be a sign that I have a major illness?

I was very depressed (almost chronic) the past year and now i suffer depression every time i get thin stool. I am slightly scared off visiting a doc running from the reality may be, but I hope to find enough courage to visit one this weekend.

Thanks for helping each other.

Hi - it could be almost anything, including your depression, affecting your digestive system. The body is a complex system of interactions, and the mind can have odd effects on it. Your best course is the one you are thinking of taking - see a doctor and get a proper checkup. You do seem to have been suffering from some debilitating conditions recently.

Your diet may also be a contributory factor so it would be a good thing to consult a proper nutritionist for advice.

Hi unezy, I am very sorry about your health worries at this point.

I totally agree with Vee that it could be almost anything.

Yoga is a wonderful exercise!

How much caffeine and diet drinks do you take in on a regular basis? Too much Caffeine and NutraSweet (diet drink sweetener) can really mess up your bowls.

Best wishes.

I agree that your change in bowel habits could be from many different issues. But, I would highly recommend getting it checking out by a doctor anyway. I know that the doctor's appt may seem very scary, but it may help ease a lot of worries that you have. Good luck!
