My husband was diagnoised with MGUS 10 years ago. His bloods have been quite stable so no treatment need, however, since December he has been very tired, pain in his back and constantly has a cold. He had appoint with the hospital in January, were he was told that his count had slightly gone up but they were not to concerned, He told him about the back pain and he was sent for xray. He was to go back in June , but because he was feeling very down I got him an appointment sooner and he was seen in clinic on the 16th April. Dr told him the xray was ok, and his count was slightly raised again, but because he wasnt aneamic and had no other pain they decide he still did not need any treatment and he was to go back in August. Last week we received a letter from the consultant ask Michael to go for an appointment as from the appointmen in April his count has gone up again. As you can imagine he is very worried as he thinks he now has MM. He still has the cold and he is extremelly tired and needs to go to bed for about 4 hrs in the afternoon. In 2002 my husband had a stroke which took 40% of his right side of his brain, he has done really well recoverning from that.

Can anyone give me any advice on what to be asking at the hospital on Wednesday appointment is at 3.00pm uk time

Jean

Hi Jean. I am very sorry about all of your husband's health issues. I can understand who stressful all of this must be for you and your husband. I do not have a standard list of questions for you to ask his doctors on Wednesday. Obviously, you are most interested in a diagnosis. I do not think MM can be diagnosed via a blood test. I do think it requires a biopsy of his bone. My ex FIL died of MM after a 6 year battle. He had to have a biopsy. Believe it or not, a bone biopsy is not as difficult as it might sound. So your main questions are: 1. Is this MM or do you need to do a biopsy? 2. When will the biopsy be done? 3. What should we expect in the biopsy procedure itself?

I hope this little list is helpful.

You and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us informed.
