Wow. Sounds like you've had one hell of a 2008. I can't imagine.
I have no advice, just passing by, wanted to let you know we'll pray for you.

Gary, I'm sorry to hear that. You've been dealt a bad hand of cards, haven't you?
Try a google search for this: mucinous adenocarcinoma prostate
Take care with the spelling of the first two words for the best results.
It would seem to be rare indeed. I found this article from the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, 2005 (see the link for the full citation). The title is "A Rare Prostatic Tumor in a 48-Year-Old Man". It would seem from the article that there have been about 60 cases reported. The article notes that although the outlook is dismal, there HAVE been cases of long term survivors.

Another article indicates that mucinous adenocarcinoma is not any worse than other prostate cancers. The authors conducted what they believe to be the largest study of this rare cancer (14 cases) and concluded: "MC appears to behave clinically in a similar fashion to AC, with no statistically significant difference in biochemical failure or survival." (By AC they mean "regular" prostate cancer, or conventional adenocarcinoma.)

It would seem that you are in mostly uncharted waters here. I suggest in addition to reading what literature that is available and consulting with the best cancer experts you can get to, that you contact a very knowledgeable layperson. His name is John and his email--which he publishes openly on WebMD--is az4peaks@newpca.org
Good luck, Gary. My thoughts are with you. _________________ Replicant
