My husband has been diagnosed with sqemous cell cancer on the base of his tongue. he is a non smoker non drinker. It has been found this was caused by the HPV virus.
I have a few questions that i cannot find the answer to.
Could this have been caused by him giving oral sex.
Does this mean that I could have a serious virus or cancer of the cervex
Can this cancer be passed on through kissing.
Should my children be checked for the virus |

SCC of the tongue may have some relation to HPV infection. But this virus is so widespread thato one can not assume that it was transmitted through oral sex, although it probably can happen. It does not mean that you have a serious disease, but you may carry the virus as well. Regardless of this problem, you should be getting Pap smears, and there they can see if you have cellular changes consistent with HPV infection. Your children do not need to be checked. HPV may be linked to several different cancers, but that does not mean that it will cause it. It is like the sun, it is a risk factor for skin cancer, but not all that sun bathe will get skin cancer. It is only a risk factor.
best regards,

My husband has this on his gums. We have been dealing with this for the past year. I also have been worried about cervical as well as oral cancer in myself. I had a pap last July that was normal and they told me to come back in a year.......Isnt that to long to wait? How fast would it spread? I also worry about oral because we have kissed alot especially before we found this out. I worry about my kids. If they start to eat or drink after us i panic. Please help
Jenny if u want to talk im here i havent found anyone else in this situation besides us until now.......I wish you all the best and May God Bless!!!! |

Jenny, I have been fighting Squamous Cell cancer since 1998. It is not caused from a "Virus". It is a cancer of its own. It is a flat cell cancer and is usually found in a surface area, such as the lungs, inside of the mout or throat. Mine had an"Unknown Primary", they don;t know where it came from. It does not spread through kissing, sex or contact. It will spread rapidly in your husband if he doesn't get treatments such as Chemo and Radiation. I wouldn't get Radiation at first and thought the surgeries would get it. They DIDN'T!! Itr matastisized to the tongue, other side of my throat, then the left lung . Following massive Radiation to my throat and surgery to my right lung, I was in remission for about a year. It came back in the lymphnodes between my lungs and a new tumor in my left lung! I just finished more Radiation and am still doing Chemo for another month. Diagnosis? I am tterminal and have maybe a year or two left.
GET THE TREATMENTS NOW!!!!!!!!!! Tom |
