Hello all, I am writing this in hopes that someone might respond. I have recently been going through some problems (vomiting blood, gerd, non stop heartburn and burning in my throat) and was sent for a gi series. The gi results read .. mucosal irregularity of the distal esophagus. I was wondering if anyone knew what this meant or had the same reading before. I looked it up and it said 'predictive of carcinoma' I am being sent for an endoscopy tommorow morning as the gi series read 'further evaluation recommended' I guess Id just like to prepare myself, as another doc said its likely I have cancer of the esophagus. Im 29, female, smoker for 17 years, have gerd, and have had a poor diet for as long as I can remember. Any help in this would be GREATLY appreciated.

"predictive" indicates that there is a possibility of cancer in the offing, not that it has definitely developed. It is still a serious situation, and I hope it has not gone that far.

Best of luck with the endoscopy. Let us know how you get on.
