Question My dad was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma about a month ago. I Think we are still in the staging part of all this.
Yesterday, he showed me his bone marrow biopsy results : " a few clusters of hematropoietic components with 3 cell lineage maturation;
Erythroid cells appear hyperplastic;
Lack of cellularity precludes further evaluation"
He didn't understand it. His Doctor has suggested daily radiation for a month, and discussed that with him, but did not explain the biopsy. Does anyone know if these results are 'normal', or expected or not? My dad is 77, and seems in fairly good health otherwise.

Hello

Bone marrow biopsies can be very tricky to interpret. Usually only very specialized pathologists read bone marrows.

Anyway, what it means is that further evaluation could not be done due to the specimen not having many cells to evaluate. The three cellular type were present there: red cells, white cells and platelet precursors. And that the red cell precursors were hyperplastic, i.e. larger. This is nonspecific.

best regards,
Leo
