| I survived cervical cancer! I am minus some parts, but still all the woman I ever was. I know how scary it is when you get referred to the oncologist, but I am on the other side now and I can tell you how liberating it is when you kick cancer's ass!! The good news is that most women with cervical cancer do!! I googled everything and thought the worst, but this is one of the most curable cancers...knowing this, I want to tell everyone!! I am 37 and about two years cancer free...I was probably five cancer full as I did not keep up with my appointments either and when I was pregnant they didn't do paps! I feel that you'll be fine...even after those 13 years...can you give us an update?! |

Sharon727.
Why don't you start your own topic and tell us your story and treatments, feelings etc. Could be great information to someone else, if you can. _________________ Thinking of you Inica

Hi Sharon,
Thank you for sharing your experience. So far I have been told that I have an early stage. I broke it tears when I heard this news (was so scare, because I did not do my tests for 13 years). Now I am waiting for the operation and so far it was a bit difficult as they did not give me the date yet. I think I have to wait 3 months and hope that it will stay the same way. The waiting time is so long. I am eating healthy and exercising, can't wait to get this problem out of my body. Which stage were you in. Did you have hysterectomy? I want to know if I can have a normal sexual life after the operation and when?
Thanks a lot,

I was stage I...the oncologist wanted to do radical hysterectomy, but ob/gyn suggested and alternative and I went with that. I had my cervix removed and an endometrial ablation as well as my tubes tied. This saved the ovaries and me from having to go through menopause at 35. I have spent the last two years doing three month follow ups, minor inconvenience and small price to pay I think. My next appt. is in Sept. and if I get the all clear on this one, I do not have to see her again for six months. Sex is fine...was to wait at least six weeks after, but I waited 8 just to be safe. If anything it is better because I don't get periods anymore, so there is no "off" time and no risk of pregnancy! My husband thinks it's awesome!
I know it is scary...no one wants to hear that word ever in reference to his/her body, but the key is to remain positive. I actually believe that is the key to having a fulfilling life. On one visit to my oncologist there were two women whooping it up and laughing while getting chemo...they obviously had much bigger challenges than me and they were laughing in cancer's face. I knew right then and there that I had no business feeling sorry for myself and that I needed to take back control. I believe everything that happens to us good or bad happens for a reason. I am a realtor and I was working like a dog and spending very little time with my family. When this happened it certainly slowed me down and made me reevaluate what is truly important in this world. I now work part time and am home every day when my children get off the school bus and they love it!! So that was my silver lining...and you will find yours! |

Hi Sharon,
Thank you so much for the info. It's really helpful. My surgery is scheduled in 2 weeks. A little nervous, but looking forward to that
My lifestyle changed a lot as well and I can see a different values in life.
I am so glad for that.
