I have been discussing my mother's brain tumor on this forum. I got some very useful opinions from forum member. I will just briefly describe again my mothers illness.
She had a seizure and after the MRI the doctors diagnosed it to be a astrocytoma grade 3 or 4. The suggested surgery and it was performed few days ago. Now the interesting situation is the following:
The surgeon who described it to be a grade 3 or 4 astrocytoma was very surprised after surgery. He said that it was an altogether different thing when he opened the skull and he was able to remove all of it (initially he said he will be able to remove only a part). The surgeon said he can only comment about the tumor or anything else once he gets the biopsy report. After surgery he was not sure about his initial diagnosis.
Now i got the biopsy report but unfortunately i will not be able to meet the surgeon till next Tuesday. I was anxious and i am sharing it with you people. The brief conclusion of biopsy report is as follows:
Conclusion: Meningoencephalitis with infarction right temporal lobe.
Can anyone suggest what is it and how good is the prognosis for this disease. And most importantly is it cancer or any other form of tumor or may be brain TB???? please do share your opinion
Best Regards

caprits, the good news is that it is not cancer. The bad news is that it is a form of a brain infection similar to meningitis... possibly caused by a virus or a bacteria. "Infarction" just means that it is blocking the blood supply to that part of her brain. I am not sure about her prognosis. However, I would think it is better than having a glioma grade III or IV.
Your mother remains in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

Hi petrit
My mom is feeling well after surgery but she still feels severe headache especially in the right half where surgery was done. May be this is due to the surgery and may need some time to improve. Her biopsy reports suggests that its meningoencephalitis.

I can only cut and paste her diagnosis into Google, as I am sure you did as well. What I read, and what you are probably finding, is that the prognosis is good.
This should be one of the "best days ever" for her. Even if she has lingering problems after the surgery, just a quick glance on this forum and others, should make her one of the happiest people in the world. |

My mom is still having headache even after two weeks of surgery. And she is also having fever for the last two days. Is it normal because we are worried about it. Please share your opinion.
Best Regards
