Well, I've had my first treatment of "Leukine GM CSF".
Not too bad. They said it usually doesn't come with any side effects. So far have not noticed any.
The doctor said this stuff is suppose to super charge my immune system. Help my own immune system in killing any tumors. I like the idea. My body has always come through for me in the past.
Decided along with the doctors, that radiation treatments are not an option for me anymore. There is a risk of lymphedema with radiation.
I already have one leg and left side abdominal area larger than the other from losing all the lymphnodes on that side. Really don't want it to get any bigger.
Heck, I'd need a cart just to haul my left leg around on. LOL
The other day a friend of mine said it looked like I had 1/2 a beer gut.
I told them it was from drinking light beer and if I'd known it would be this way I'd of drank full flavored just to keep things symetrical. LOL
Now that's funny.

Hey Euan
I'm feeling pretty good.
Wounds are all closed up.
For the first time in over a year I don't have anything leaking out of me.
Well, except for the normal places.
Zero side effects from the Leukine GM CSF.
Actually been able to forget about the cancer.
Not scheduled for any scans for a few more weeks. They tell me that wounds healing can give a "false" positive so I'm kind've like a school boy on vacation.
How about you? They ever figure out whats going on?

Glad to hear that things are going better for you mate, and good luck with those scans in a few weeks.
Nah, they still haven't figured out what's wrong with me. Recent CT scan shows enlarged lymph nodes in my neck and one in the upper part of my chest - although according to my doc the nodes are 'not that large' (1.2cm is the biggest) and may just be 'due to some virus or something'.
I'm booked to have a CT-guided core needle biopsy on the largest neck node on 25th June, so I guess I might get some sort of answer after that. Will let you know once I have some news!
Hope the wounds continue to heal,
cheers

Well, seen my oncologist today.
All blood tests look good.
They've postponed scans for 2 months.
Looks like I'm getting the summer off for good behavior.
I know the scans are important, but I can't help but get excited about being "normal" for a change. Even if it's only for a couple months. _________________ ****Kick'n Cancers Arse Since April 2007****

Plans.
I've got a list of "Honey Do's" about 14 months long.
Amazing how stuff that needs fixed around the house can pile up over a year.
Not to forget camping, fishing, bar-b-que, and relaxing by the river.
My family has been soooooo great through all of this. I want to spend as much time with them as I can. _________________ ****Kick'n Cancers Arse Since April 2007****

Happy Independence Day/July 4th
This is my 2nd July 4th since diagnosed!!!!
I plan on being here for many, many more.
Cheers, and I'll be drinking a cold one for everyone that can't.
Not to mention fireworks and barbeque.

That's awesome Jim, 15 Independence Days!!!!!
Think about this, when I have 15 you'll have 29
Let me tell you guys, this was one of the best 4th's I've had in a long time.
Seen lots of family and friends I have not seen in a long time.
Oh, and like I said, I drank some cold ones for those who couldn't.
I didn't keep track but I think I had like six........................teen
What a day!
I'm off to find some more alka seltzer.
Peace

Hey Tony.
Just checking in with you, and a bit of an update.
Sounds like the 4th of July celebrations were great! Hope you are enjoying the rest and relaxation on your 'time off for good behaviour'!
Nancy & I were up in Maine (visiting her sister and brother in law) for the holiday. Nice to get a change of scene. All going well with the pregnancy, exciting count down now until the baby is due in early Nov!!
Healthwise it's still a long story, but docs now think maybe thyroid cancer for me. Should be having surgery in the next few weeks, then I'll find out for sure. Will let you know how it goes - at this point I just want to know what the hell is wrong with me so I stand some chance of being able to do something about it.
Anyway, just wanted to say hi and that I hoped you were feeling okay.
cheers

Thanks Jim. I know what to expect from the surgery - I had exactly the same circumstances 20yrs ago (when I was 16). They removed the nodules and the right half of my thyroid. Pathology turned out to be benign that time, and I had enough of a thyroid gland remaining that I don't have to take meds. The surgery itself is not too difficult, provided I don't also need neck dissection for lymph nodes. We'll see.
Am obviously hoping that this time the nodules also turn out to be benign...although whatever the results of the pathology, I'll be on hormone replacement for the rest of my life as I'll have no thyroid gland. Still, small price to pay for peace of mind and finding out for sure if I have cancer in my neck, so I'm not complaining!
Hope all's well with you
