Hi All,
I have been recently been diagnosed with "Marginal Zone B-cell Lymphoma with Plansmacytic differentiation" from a biopsy taken from a Dermatologist. I am awaiting my initial appoitment with a Oncologist in July to get staged and hear treatments.....long grueling wait.
I actually feel pretty healthy. I noticed a bump on my upper tricep almost 2 years ago. I get kheloids (scar tissue) on my back, so I assumed it was that. It then split into two--they dissappeared then came back. I went to a dermatologist I went to when I was in High School (I am 33 y/o now) and she told me it was a bug bite and not to worry. Well an additional one appeared on my lower lower back and I went to a different dermatologist who made this diagnosis. (Drs are not perfect).
So here I am...waiting and reading the forums. Trying to get an idea of what is instore for me. As I said before, i feel good (excpet for a soreness in my arm which could be just in my head). I will keep updating my story for anyone else in my shoes. Not sure of all the types out there and if anyone has this type.
If anyone has any tips or comments, my ears are open! |

Hi
Sorry to hear of your Diagnosis. My understanding of your Lymphoma is that it is an indolent type. I believe the treatment is radiotherapy and no chemo but I may be wrong there.
Don't be too worried about the treatment. Have faith in the medical profession they are very good at treating lymphomas these days.
If you feel up to it keep us posted, especially if things are getting you down.
Good luck

Hi
Things are great down under! Its winter so every thing is green now, as we have had good rains. I live in Adelaide by the way.
A bit of research into your type of Lymphoma indicates that a wait and see approach is frequently adopted. It is characterized as a slow growing lymphoma. The doctors will stage it according to how many areas the tumour's are in and if they appeared in the nodes or outside of them.
Did you mean lymphoplasmacytic differentiation rather than Plansmacytic differentiation ?

It probably means Lymphoplasmacytic....I was just quoting the Biopsy.
Thanks for the research. I guess that is a good thing!
I have always wanted to travel to Australia and see those pesky bird who annoy you while you eat outdoors (I think they are called ibis??).
Enjoy the Winter! |

diablonyc2,
You said you had a bump on your tricep. Can I ask you the details about this. Was it large, medium or a small size. You also said it disappeared and came back. I have 2 small (smaller than a pea) bumps on my tricep and I also saw a dermatologist who was not concerned. Can you give me a bit more info on this.
Thank you!

Hi Debbie,
Mine are the size about a pea as well---maybe slightly larger...feels almost like scar tissue, but I never had anything there. If you raise your arm and feel the inner part of your tricep, that is where mine is...not in the armpit, but close.
You may want to have that checked out with a different dermatologist like I did. I have not seen the Dr yet (appointment in July) for mine. A Biopsy should tell you what it is. Hopefully, it is nothing. |

Did your little bumps turn out to be lymph nodes? You also said you got one on your back. What type of a lump was that one-I don't think we have any nodes on our back but I could be wrong.

hi debbie.
So far I have no new information....waiting to see dr. A derm took biopsy of arm only...was that a lymph node? I really do not know.
I do feel great, like nothing is wrong...which is strange....but I think normal for the rare type the biopsy noted. |

Hi Debbie,
Nothing yet. I know I have Marginal Zone B which is a slow moving type, but have no new information on treatment. From what I hear treatment is different for everyone (depends on a lot of criteria).
If you are concerned about your bump, you should go for a second opnion. |

**UPDATE**
So I finally had my initial visit. Prior I sent him my original Biopsy and had the lab sent more slides to the DR for his testing.
It appears to be Marginal B Zone Cutaneous. I need to get a PET Scan & Bloodwork to confirm and stage. Chemoman was correct (and THANK YOU AGAIN). It is a slow growing cancer, and if it is, it most likely wil not progress to something agressive (but the DR has seen a few cases where it has).
Treatment: If localized, Radiation and/or topical chemo. If it is in more than one place, a "wait and see" approach may be adopted.
So thank you again Chemoman for your input. I was in the dark not knowing what to look for regarding information and you were EXTREMLY Helpful! |

Hello again
Glad to see that everything has happened and you have a definite diagnosis. You seem more relaxed in your posts. Stay positive because there is no reason for you to be anything else
