Hi
My son is 3 1/2 and has had swollen lymph nodes in his neck since he was about a year old, he has been seen by the pediatrician who said that they were just par the course of him growing up and nothing much else was done except a blood test, which showed t-cells, again they were not worried about that either.

Just before Christmas this year he got tonsillitis which refused to clear up despite various antibiotics, he is now allergic to penicillin too! We were referred to the ENT clinic and he is now having his tonsils and adenoids out next week on 8th May.

However since he has had the tonsillitis one of his tonsils has been remarkably bigger than other (can't tell you what they were like before as never looked!) and now one has shrunk completely as so it can hardly be seen, yet his right one still protudes to the middle of his throat. Although there doesn't seem to be any symptoms of any infection for a while now.

Also to top this all off he suffers from GERD (gastro reflux) and is taking pump inhibitors to stop the symptoms of that.

After searching all his symptoms on the net, the one thing that kept cropping up is lymphoma. I guess I just want to know, am I being an over paranoid mother or do you think this is something that needs more investigation from the doctors. Also when they remove tonsils do they routinely screen them for disorders such as lymphoma or do I need to ask them too. Is lymphoma something that would scream out at the doctors or something I need to push them to investigate?

Many thanks for taking your time to read this and any replies or support greatly appreciated.

Hi sammiejuk. I am very sorry about your sons health problem. As a father of three, I know how hard it is for me when any one of them got sick but I cannot even begin to imagine what you must be going through.

I do not know what your son has. It really could be cancer but most likely it is just an infection. Nevertheless, if it were my son, I would specifically tell his medical team about our concern that it might be lymphoma and have them tell what there thinking is on the subject.

You and your son are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi, I agree with brainman. Ask the medical team for an opinion on whether it could be lymphoma so that it is possible to rule this out as the worry you must be going through must be horrendous. Thinking of you from a mother whom knows the worries of loosing a child, I will be praying for you that you will be given a simple explanation to this! Keep us updated, cares, hugs and Gods Blessings, Koik

I am on these blogs for cervical cancer and pre cancer of the colon...it's a shame that I can come on to the childhood cancer forum...

Anyway, my son, who is 6 yrs old & had surgery at 7 wks f 4 pyloric stenosis has a tumor on his leg that has been classified after several xrays and an MRI as a pre-cancerous mass that needs to b removed b4 he enters puberty bcause these tumors always metastasize. My daughter...age 14 has pre-cancerous skin lesions above her eye since birth which have been "removed" twice so far but keep coming back!! She has an appt. with cosmetic surgeon in Oct. and we hope this is the end.

Anyway, my point is, do not wish this negative crap on your child!! The internet is not the place for you 2 get info and your child is fine!!

It always baffles me when a parent runs right to the worst case scenario with their own flesh and blood! Think positive please!!
