Hi All,
I had my abdominal op 1 week ago. It went good. I had my BM Very Happy , however still have my catheter (very discomfortable). I walk just a bit at home, did not go outside yet.
I know that it will take me 8 to 10 weeks to recover before I can be sexually active with my husband. One thing is bothering me and I need your answer. i was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The doctor told us that one of the possible scenarious of why I have it is because of HPV
Before I met my husband he had sexual relationships without using any protection. That is why the doctor came to this conclusion. Now I am scared to resume a sexual relationship with him, because I afraid that he can give me an HPV again. There is no tests to identify it in men.
i need your advise on what to do. I am so lost? How can I protect myself

thanks a lot to all of you for your support

tdovga, I am glad to hear that you are recovering well from your surgery. I am sorry about the concern that your husband might be the HPV carrier. I did not know that there is not a test for it in men. This does raise a very significant issue for the two of you. As I see it, you have two options or both together.

1. You get the HPV vaccine. I know there is a lot of controversy about it but it is at least something for you and your doctor to talk about. I also do not know if you really have HPV or not. Did your doctor actually find the virus or is she just offering that as a possibility?

2. Your husband could start using condoms.

You and your husband are in my thoughts and prayers.

men can have a test and quite a simple one. They stick a cotton swab down the eye of the penis and swab. This will detect if any HPV- and as long as he isn't active with anyone untill results come through, then he should be ok. It is painless, but more an embarrassment for them - BUT hell we go through things a hell of alot worse.!!!! (so tell him to be a man, and get it done)

Alot of men that are a carrier, Their body can become immune to the virus, and fight it off. So If they have had it, but have a test come back clear- then they are most likely clear from then on- unless in contact with it again.

Hope this helps.

(husband had all the swabs etc)

Hi guys,
thank you for the fast replies> What is the name of this test for men? I want my husband to do it? I don't think he will mind.
He was tested against STD and it came back negative

HPV is a STD- it's the most common type of STD today. AND also the most deadlt, to women.

I can't think of the test, but we saw an Ulrologist specialist, who did the test. I'm sure it is the same swab they do for all SDT in men. They look at the physical penis (skin) for anything that may indicate HPV- then do the swabs.
They use a numbing gel, so no pain. My husband had to do it in day surgery- it took no more then 2 min.

I'm sure if you speak to your DR they can refer him to another specialist. BUT I would ask if the HPV was in the test he had for STD's first.
