Hello,

My mother was recently diagnosed with liver cancer. Quick summary. In 1984 she had a hip replacement and had blood transfusions. Found out back in 2004 that she gotten Hepitis C then. Since then she has found out she has cirrhosis and diabetes. In one of her regular scans she gets they found a mass on her liver. They did a biopsy 2 weeks ago and found it to be cancer. As of now, it is 3cm and looks like it has not traveled anywhere. She talked to her doctor today and was told she can not have resection of that part because of the cirrhosis. She also have a very low platelet count also. Her doctor also told her she has almost no fat what so ever in her liver. Her doctor informered her that he thinks the best treatment is Intra-Arterial Chemotherapy.

My mother is a very strong woman. I wish I had her strength. My father passed away 3 and a half years ago and to be honest, I am terrified. I am 34 years old and have 3 children of my own that are VERY close to there grandmother.

If you go by just what you read on the net, the picture gets grim. I was wondering what people know about this treatment and what kind of hope can we have? I know noone has the golden answer but I am a person that everyone turns to to fix their problems and I feel helpless. I am one of those rare people in this world today that has been gifted in having 2 wonderful loving supportive parents and the thought of loosing her is devistating to me.

Thank you for listening to me. When you are the shoulder for everyone else to cry on, it is hard to find a shoulder for yourself.

Liver cancer is very hard to treat. Even hard when you have hep and cirossis. I am sorry that you are having to go through this. I am taking care of my brother who has liver cancer and it is very hard. I am in the end stages of fighting my own cancer and need more surgeries that have been put on hold to care for him. There is no one else but me and him so his care comes soley from me. He is with Hospice but they have offered little in the way of emotional support. They do pay for his meds which is a great help. I guess they have done CAT scans, MRI's and PET scans to make sure the cancer is primary liver cancer and did not originate somewhere else? I wish you well.

Thank you. Yes they did those scans before hand and then they did the biopsy. She has been going in routinly to get checked on all the time with blood work and tests to make sure her problems didn't get worse. She is 61 years old and shows no symptoms of the cancer as of now.

My thoughts and prayers are withy ou and your brother also.

Just thought I would post an update. My mother was just given a chemo embolism. All looks good so far but it is early. The tumor has not grown and right now it is 3.5 cm in size. She is doing great and is showing no signs of side effects from treatment or the tumor.

We are all staying positive and hoping for the best. She will go back to the doc next week to work on getting her on the transplant list.
