| I've been on it for 10 months and I need it to void a little between the self catheterizing I do. The side effect of dizziness and loss of energy are the problem, I have tried Uraxatol and it made no difference. I have tried to take it every other day and the second day is a little better but I feel like a yoyo. I have also tried to dump out some powder from the capsule to get it to about 1/3 strength and take it every day but, It doesn''t seem to make a difference. Any suggestions on how to take this stuff and reduce the side effects. I'm also on Avodart daily for the past 3 months but, that has reduced the size of the prostate but, no impact on the side effects. |

Since your question isn't about prostate cancer, maybe you could post it on WebMD--there's a urologist there, Dr. Marks, who answers this kind of question, and it doesn't have to be cancer related. Here's a direct link:

It sounds like you're going through quite a bit of discomfort and I imagine the self cathing is something you'd rather not do.
Just curious--have you thought about any of the new minimally invasive procedures to open up the plumbing a bit? Like the ones described here?

| I guess I should have mentioned that my cancer was removed with 130 seeds inplanted in Oct 07, these are the side effects I have been left with. I have been strongly advised to not concider any type surgery due to the radiated tissue for at least a year, if at all. |

I see.
I've heard of guys with similar problems after brachytherapy, including a guy in a support group I attended (US TOO) who self-cathed for 2 or three years, until he found a good surgeon who fixed the problem (I don't remember the specifics).
While you see urinary problems as a listed potential side effect of seeds, you'd think the word would be out that this particular side effect might cause you to have to self-catheterize multiple times a day for many months. That would, no doubt, cause many men to reconsider brachytherapy.
On the other hand, I'm sure there are many men who breeze through with nary a complaint...

| Thanks for your interest and response. I agree, the cure all with no problems is not true, especially when you have a history of retaining urine. I want rap my Old Uro up side of his head. |
