|
|
I just finished what will likely be my last R CHOP treatment (did 6 cycles/ every 2 wks) for Stage 3 DLBCL. I got very good report/results from recent CT scan. I will do another CT scan in 3 weeks at which time we will likely decide on a maintenance program.
However, a PET scan is not scheduled for 3 months following the CT scan. The last PET scan was done prior to beginning of treatments. Is 3 months common? Just sounds like a long wait.
Thank you!

Manny, I am very sorry about your cancer but happy that the chemo is at an end.
Three month is common. I know that waiting that long can feel like an eternity. But it just takes time after the last treatment before any scans will be of any value other than to establish a baseline against which to compare future scans.
Having said that, as your medical team will tell you, if you have any problems during those 3 months, do not hesitate to call your doctor.
Please, keep us informed. You are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

Hi Manny
Don't worry it is normal to wait for 3 months. I asked my doctor what would be the best and he said that is up to me. He recommended one at 3 months another at 9 months after that another at 2 years out and the last at 3 years out. He also said I could decline any further tests and just keep an eye out myself, according to him quite a few of his patients do that and he has no problems with it. If the cancer returns it will usually be at the site where it was first detected and it will be within 2 years. If you get to 2 years out with no relapse you will be fine
I know you will worry because I do, but there really is nothing to worry about, at least that is what I tell myself. Just as an aside, when I asked my Doctor what to look out for, he thought for a moment then came out with" You need to watch for cars when you cross the road"

Hi Manny
Your welcome mate Just one question, are they thinking about Rituxam maintenance for you ? I would be interested to hear what they are planning. All the best again Manny, I really hope it goes well.
