Hi,

In the past 3 months two of my mother's friends, husband's have passed away from Non Hodgkins lymphoma.

The one husband had lived with it for 14 years before his battle had ended. This was so sad, he was the best person anyone could ever meet.

Then just yesterday my mother's other friends husband passed away from it after fighting for 6 years.

My aunt has been in remission for 25 years now and had it for almost 2 years.

I have finally learned to live each day to the fullest and be happy with who you are and to love everyone around you because you don't know when your time is going to come.

It seems I hear more and more about Non Hodgkins lymphoma anymore than you do breast cancer.

Thanks for reading this post.

Hello

Sorry to hear of your loss. It can be hard to regain perspective at times like these, but a read of your post tells me that the three people you mentioned lived for a total of 45 years with their cancers, which doesn't actually make them swift killers. Yes NHL is one of the cancers that has shown a increase in its incidence in recent years. Fortunately that seems to have slowed down and plateaued but it is more common now than it used to be. It is the 5th most common cancer in the developed world. There are also more than 35 different types of NHL and they are all different in the way they are treated and the outcomes that can be expected. A diagnosis of NHL is not a death sentence and it can be treated successfully these days , as can be seen from the swelling ranks of the survivors. DLBCL in particular is very responsive to the latest chemo treatments that have been developed recently.
Your philosophy on life is a good one, but you don't need to fear cancer if you don't have it. The vast majority of people go through their lives without getting cancer and most die of other causes.

Cheers and Good luck, wishing you all the best Smile
