It has been two months since my mom had brain surgery. But her post operative problems are not ending. Her main problem is headache and head spinning. She can not talk for more then 10 minutes, after that she complains of her head spinning. She can not sit for long and lays down after sitting for few minutes. We talked to doctors and they said that the recovery takes time and she will get better.

I want to know someone´s personal experience. what i found on internet is that the recovery is normally fast. What could be the problem??

Hello,
I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I wanted to share just in case.

My surgery was 5 weeks ago. The 2nd week after, I started feeling REALLY awful. Dizzy, sick to my stomach, always feeling like I would pass out. Started spending most of my time lying down, or looking forward to when I could. Called the neurosurgeon; their advice was to stop taking Percocet and switch to Tylenol.

I stopped the Percocet that afternoon, and have been fine since then. No more passing-out feelings. It was a bad reaction to the pain pills. If your mom is still taking narcotics for pain, perhaps this is contributing to the issue? Just something to think about.

caprits, I am very sorry that your mother continues to have problems this long after her surgery. I know that I was back to work (although not driving) just 2 weeks after my surgery. But it really depends on the specific location of the tumor and how much of the brain they had to remove.

Amy is right; it could be a reaction to her medication. It could even be an inner ear infection. Other things are possible as well. When was her last MRI?

Bottom line advice is to keep bushing her medical team for an answer. Tell them that you know others who recovered quickly and ask them for an explanation as to why your mother is still suffering. If the cannot or will not give you an answer, get a second opinion.
