Liver resection?? providing it goes as planned is it a long recovery from the operation? will mom be able to stay at her house alone at any amount of time? my younger brother lives there but works every day-usually home most evenings. she has been to my home after her last 3 surgerys and stayed around 5 days. can anyone tell me what you had to struggle most with after the resection and did you require alot of help? Id like to be prepared so she doesnt argue with me. she doesnt like to impose (as she feels she is-but she isnt) on any of us.

I would like to tell you that she will be up and around in no time at all but it is not the case. It takes approx 6-8 weeks to feel up to getting up and about and most docs will tell you that you are back to normal at that time. Not true. Of course everybody is different. She will be moving around in a week or 2 but she will be very sore. You are not to lift anything heavy for several weeks. She will be very tired and in all probability will have a low appetite. The incision is a bear and hurts. I felt pretty good in the early day after several weeks but grew tired as the day progressed. It has been almost 2 years since my resection and I still sometimes can feel sore if I lift something too heavy. Of course, there is always the issue of scar tissue that can be uncomfortable for a long time. I had digestive complaints for a very long time. I hope that she does well. I consider myself to be very blessed and fortunate to have been able to have the resection. take care
