For the past two weeks I've been having chapped lips. Both of my lips are chapped and there where/is cracked/dryness on the sides of my mouth. First I tried medicated chapstick. My lips became fully healed and stayed normal for about 2 days and then the dryness came back. Then I went to my doctor and he perscribed me Abreva. I used it and again the same thing happened. It cured my lips but then they got chapped again. I went to my doctor againa and he perscribed my some ointment and vitamin C tablets.

I am really worried about Actinic Cheilitis which is a precancerous. Do I have any of the symptoms which would indicate it? My upper lip and sides are affected and the dryness goes away if I went my lips, eat something, or am in a humid environment (steam from taking a shower).

Hi - sorry you are having concerns. Diagnosis from the net is chancy and we on this site are not medically qualified to diagnose. I have two questions for you:

Firstly - where do you live? Secondly - have you asked your doctor what he / she thinks may be the cause of the dryness?

Thanks for the reply. I live in NYC and I'm really not sure what my doctor thought. He just said put this ointment on and take vitamin C. I should've asked him to clarify. I've been to him twice.

I would ask him. The fact that he prescribed vitamin C rather indicates that he thinks it may be dietary.
