[quote="shuggy1972"]Thanks Jim. I know what to expect from the surgery - I had exactly the same circumstances 20yrs ago (when I was 16). They removed the nodules and the right half of my thyroid. Pathology turned out to be benign that time, and I had enough of a thyroid gland remaining that I don't have to take meds. The surgery itself is not too difficult, provided I don't also need neck dissection for lymph nodes. We'll see.
Am obviously hoping that this time the nodules also turn out to be benign...although whatever the results of the pathology, I'll be on hormone replacement for the rest of my life as I'll have no thyroid gland. Still, small price to pay for peace of mind and finding out for sure if I have cancer in my neck, so I'm not complaining!
Hope all's well with you

Hi guys, im new here. Anyways, id like to tell u about my wife because she has a thyroid gland disease causing her to use "thyroxin" for the rest of her life. It is really no biggie. As long as she remembers to take her pills when she is supposed to, she doesent feel any side-effects whatsoever. So, if u must do the same, no worries _________________ ex - Hodgkins Lymphoma

Hey Euan,
Just got back from a week in the mountains riding motorcycles.
Seven of us in all.
Had a great time. Riding, swimming, relaxing.
Noticed one odd thing while in the mountains. Mosquitos don't like me anymore!!!!
I'm like walking bug repellant. The rest of the people got eaten up by the little blood suckers. Not me.
I say it was because I'm just tooo sweet and they can't handle me. My wife says it's because I'm ornery and full of piss and vinegar
At any rate, I hope your surgery goes well for you. It can be soooo frustrating NOT knowing what's wrong.
November is a great time to have a baby. The holidays, family and friends.
Let me know how things turn out.

Well, back to reality.
Went in and had a CT scan done today.
Dr.'s appointment for the result is Aug. 12th.
Sure was nice forgetting what it's like to be a patient for a while.
But now the wait is on. _________________ ****Kick'n Cancers Arse Since April 2007****

Just got back from my appointment.
CT scan came back inconclusive.
I guess it showed some possible spots in the right side abdominal area and another possibility in the neck right side.
Looks like we're on hold for 3 more months and another CT scan.
Not exactly the "all clear" I was hoping for, but I'll take it.

Wow have I got an update for you guys.
Last Friday night I had my first seizure.
They called 911 and rushed me to the hospital.
They removed a tumor Monday morning, got home late last night.
Got me some new titanium hardware in my "brain bucket".
Looks kind've like "Planet of the Apes" when his buddy gets labotomised.
Or in the movie, "One flew over the cuckoos nest".
Still kind've scramble brained. Surprisingly not tooo much pain.
Lots of swelling though. Left eye swollen almost shut.
I'm still hangin' in there guys and gals.

Yep, on anti-seizure meds.
Not sure about my spelling, though.
Happend real quick and real scary.
Early to tell, but looks like they got it all.
Go back in 9 more days to remove the staples I think.
From what I understand, they cut out a round chunk of the skull big enough to remove the whole tumor and put it back together with 3 sets of screws and titanium. Then covered that all back up with a large "c" shaped section of skin.
Definately a "manly man" scar on this one!!!!!
This is really turning out to be one of the craziest life's I've ever known.
I've said it before, Family and Friends are truly what's important in this world.
This forum has also become important to me. It's a way to document what's been happening to me and tell my story. Thank you all for listening.

Jeez Tony. You like to have a quiet life don't you??!
Sorry that you've had yet more crap to go through, but I'm glad to hear that you are back home now with your family and that your fighting spirit is strong as ever.
Hope you have a speedy recovery from this latest op, hang in there

Seems so surreal that this all just happened last friday.
Can't really complain about the medical service I've been recieving. Felt kind've sorry for the Dr. that was doing the late night surgery. I think those neurosurgeons are pretty busy guys.
I did lose a couple days after the surgery though.
Know I came to a couple times, and really just wanted to go back to sleep.
I figure they kept me "out of it" for the worst part???
Interesting side note, colors seem somehow different to me now.
Hard to explain.
Everyone hang in there,

Yep, OHSU is where they've done all my surgeries.
My Oncologists works out of Providence Hospital but the Neurosurgeon and the Surgical Oncologist work out of Oregon's Health Science University.
Hey Jim, have you had anymore seizure's since you started the anti-seizure meds????
Like I said, sure wouldn't want to have any more seizure's if I didn't have too. _________________ ****Kick'n Cancers Arse Since April 2007****
