Found out recently my mother in law , 80, has large B type lymphoma. At least 2 tumors around 6-7 cm, one on lower spine and one around the kidney. I believe maybe in a few lymph nodes. She has decided to let nature run it's course with no treatment. 3 weeks ago she went to a nursing home. The oncologist she had met with said she had at least 6-7 months as a guess. I have been curious since I've found this forum as to if anyone knows how fast this grows, what to expect and does that time line seem appropiate. We don't really know what to expect down the road.

Hello mjphoto

I am very sorry to hear your mother in law is so sick. DLBCL is a very aggressive disease. If left to its own devices it can kill you in 12 months. Basically what happens is the immune system becomes so impaired that eventually the patient will succumb to infection. There is also a chance that the tumors may impinge on a blood vessel somewhere and block blood supply to a vital organ. The doctor's estimate is probably good as he has an idea of where your mother in laws lymphoma has progressed to.
I hope things go smoothly and your mother in law is at peace during this time.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we got our answer today. She passed away this afternoon. It had only been a couple of months since she had found out about the cancer. I guess sometimes things just go quicker than you expect. We just weren't ready to let go.
Thanks again.

Mike, I am so sorry about your mother-in-law's death. No matter how much time we have, we are never fully ready to let go. My mother died within 2 months of her diagnosis. Although I knew that she only had a short time to live, it still was hard... harder on others in my family who still hoped for at least a year.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
