Since my RRP I have had to undergo bilateral inguinal hernia repairs. Hernias caused by RPP according to docs. Not uncommon they say. The real issue is this - the antibiotics they gave me for these three surgeries killed off all my intestinal bacteria and when they regrew it was only the 'bad' bacteria and I ended up with two+ months of 'The Flying Axe Handles", otherwise known as Montezuma's Revenge. I just discovered Acidophilous [sp?] as a dietary supplement and poof, just like that, the flying axe handles are gone. Now I'm rebuilding my intestinal fauna with lactobacillus and acidophilous. A good combination. Acidophilous can be found as an additive to some yogurts, but I have found it in pill form at the local RiteAid. Lactobacillus is a sour milk product also found in some yogurts.

Might help you if you have the same issues.

Gary, that sounds like good nutritional advice. Thanks for posting it. I'm sure others will benefit.

Thanks for the information. I wondered why my bowel movements have been so different since the surgery. I'm going to get some yogurt with active bacteria cultures this morning.

Thanks again.

It's very common for bad bacteria to take over after a round of antibiotics. Another alternative is ProBiotics. The one I take is Ortho Biotic by Ortho Molecular Products. You can order direct from their site. It's about $50 for 60 capsules (one a day). Each capsule contains about 20 billion good bugs. The nice thing about the capsules is you can take them anywhere, no refrigeration needed. I take them everyday for good intestinal health. It really helps with my diverticulitis.

But remember to always advise your doctors about any medication you take, even ProBiotics.

And, my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2006. Gleason 3+4=7 PSA 3.2. Treatment of choice was proton beam therapy at Loma Linda Hospital, California. His current PSA is .52 and will continue to drop as the cancer cells die off.
