My mom underwent surgery for the 4 x 8 cm mass seen on CT this past Tuesday in Birmingham, AL. When the doctor opened her up, he saw many nodules and other cancerous areas not seen on CT and just closed her back up. He originally told us he would give her Taxol and Carboplatin again as she tolerated it so well after her original TAH and diagnosis of stage IIIA uterine cancer. She was in remission for 8 months after that. This a.m. when she was discharged from the hospital they said they are going to give her Gleevec instead as this is a "protocol" for recurrent uterine cancer. Does anyone know anything about this or its success rates? All I can find is that it was mainly used in leukemia treatment?

my mom also has recurrent endometrial cancer. My sisters and I found that they are testing gleevec for recurrent endo. cancer. I was wondering if your mom has been taking it and how is she doing. Is the drug working for her?
My mom's doctor will not prescribe it because he doesn't feel there is enough evidence.
Hope your mom is doing well.

Well, as it turned out the docs told my mom she has both sarcoma and adenocarcinoma. She only would have qualified for the gleevec study if she only had sarcoma. This is a phase 2 trial through UAB Birmingham. I haven't been able to find any info regarding success either. I hope your mom does well. I know what your going through and how hard this is.
