A couple of questions:

1. I had a TAH BSO on 1/25/05. I'm 51 years old. Prior to this surgery, I didn't have any symptoms of menopause. I am almost 4 weeks post op and still no symptoms. I was told that I might not experience the normal menopause symptoms as I am overweight. I was also told that I might have gone through menopause but not have known it as I take 0.5 Xanax at night and prn for panic attacks. Can you comment on that?

2. My surgical staging was Stage 1B/Grade 1. There was just 1 focus spot into the endometrium. I've been advised that I don't need chemo or radiation and will be followed for the normal 5 year follow up. I understand that recurrence could occur in the breast, colon or vaginal cuff. Of course, I'm not taking any hormones but I'm wondering if I have an increased chance of recurrence due to being overweight as fat cells convert to estrogen, and it's estrogen that feeds the cancer?

Thank you in advance for your help & responses.

Old age, fat, and nulliparity are risk factors for endometrial cancer. But after the surgery is resected, I am not sure if endogenous estrogen is still a risk factor for recurrence for early stage grade 1 uterine cancer since the recurrence is very low. I guess they may increase the risk, but the magnitude should be quite small.
