| There are a number of books and web sites that provide information on alternative treatments and supplements that aid in the fight against cancer. The book, "How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine" is endorsed by the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. It has a load of information that you and your uncle may mind helpful. Good luck |

Depending upon his circumstances (type of cancer, staging, his health status), have you uncle get a second opinion (from a National Cancer Institute accredited facility) regarding his current course of treatment (chemo) as well as radiation therapy or surgery. That is not to say that your uncle needs to change what he is doing...its just that he can get a second opinion to make sure that there are not better treatment plans that he should be following.
Good luck. |

|

You need to have the doctor tell you what kind of cancer he has. Have him write it down for you so you can look of the web and read around it. My husband also has lung cancer and it sounds like your uncle may have the same kind. My huband has NSCLC which means Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and he has Stage IIIB. The cancer is located outside the lung in the lining of the lung and because of where it is they can not do anything but chemo for him. However, do not give up hope, because there are more than one kind of chemo treatments. If the first doesn't work they will try another. With this kind of cancer they are trying not really to cure it but to hold it at bay so it doesn't spread elsewhere. His cancer had attached to the lung and drained inside it. They drained 3 liter of fluid off his right lung when they first found it. With chemo immediately, and since his lung has not filled up again with fluid. May sure that they provide enought pain medicine to keep him without pain. That too has to be tried to find the right conbination of medicine. My husband takes Morphin 60's time released 3 times a day and adds Loratab for break thru pain. There is medicine to help he want to eat, medicine to keep him from losing what he eats, and medicine for anything he needs. Don't be afraid to call the doctor and call the doctor and call the doctor until you can make him as pain free as possible. Also, lung cancer usually makes it very hard to get your breath so make sure if he has this problem he has oxygen at home. My husband has oxygen he sleeps with so he doesn't wake up several times a night because he can't breate and he has portable oxygen he can carry with him to doctors etc. We own a small store in my little town and he goes with me everyday to work. He can't do much but he goes and sits in a recliner I put there for him so he can be with me and talk to customers that come in, etc. Mind over Matter is SOOOOOOO important with this disease. Keep him up and keep him hoping for it to improve even if you know or think different. A will to live can make life last a long time and I repeat again - Call the doctor, call the doctor, call the doctor until you and he are happy with what you know and what you feel. The Oncolink site has questions you can print out and take with you to the doctor to help you know and remember what to ask. It helps to write down ever pain and problem he has so you will remember to ask and it will help him if someone goes with him to doctor and to chemo each and every time so you can ask what he might forget and so you can help him cope as time goes by. I am not an expert on this but I have read and read everything I can find on the web and read and read everything on this site. Each time the doctor tells us a new medicine or a new chemo I ask him to write it now so I can look the treatment up on the web and see what side effects it will have and what I can do to help and side effects for my husband. Be as informed as you can even if you read what you don't want to read because you can help him cope and explain the side effects to him so he isn't upset around what the chemo does. It is a long journey and and learning experience for him and you but you can become so much closer with him during this time if you take the time to find out all you can. Hope I helped some. You and your uncle will be in my prayers _________________ Living and Loving One Day at a Time!! |

Nickr33,
Read some of "mikes" posts, I believe he has given some of the best information anyone could ask for. I have a GUT feeling he's on the right track. Just from what I've read and then followed up on is enough to arm ourselves with options. Not promises just options...that's good enough for me. Good luck Nick. _________________ Wisdom, Serenity and Courage. |

Jaypee,
Glad to hear that you and your sister have a plan! Do yourselves a favor and get her Oncologist to nail down the diagnosis ASAP.
Regarding Chemo, let me paraphrase one of Dr. Andrew Weil's books in which he argues that cancer results from the failure of the body's immune system. In the case of your sister and my wife, their immune systems were overwhelmed. As such Dr. Weil recommended that cancer pateints start with traditional (vs alternative) treatments to get the cancer under control, i.e. chemo. Once under control, alternative therapies can be introduced to help rebuild the body's immune system.
Forget about who is making money or not. Like the cause of my wife's cancer, we will never know. But that not the important thing right now. You sister's life depends on doing the smart thing. Lung cancer doesn't scew around and neith should you.
God speed
