Hi

We just recently found out that my 31 yr old sister has mucinous epithelial ovarian cancer. Its the worst, and its already to a stage 4, and my family and i are all so crushed and heartbroken. She is so young and there is no history of ovarian cancer in our family. Ovarian cancer is so dangerous because it doesnt usually present symptoms until its in a late stage, and i know that, because im an EMT and have transported enough patients to get their info. Im so scared for her, and i know her prognosis isnt good. Does anyone know anything about this particular cancer, the mucinous kind? She doesnt have insurance which is making it all the worse, and she cant get medicaid for 2 yrs the social worker at the hospital told her. Some one please help us understand this better.

Hello

I am sorry to hear about your daughter. She will definitely need treatment, but unfortunately it is unlikely to be curative at this point. Regardless, the are treatments that extend her life expectancy.

Its my sister not my daughter. Do you know anything about this particular type? How much have my risks increased since she was diagnosed? I know only 1% will ever get this particular type. But dont my odds increase now? Sorry for all of the questions, its just so confusing at this point, and i am scared.
