It has really been an emotional ordeal since mom was first diagnosed with lung cancer on Janaury 31, and I will share more, but here is her summary. (tried to fit this into my signature, but was too long..will have to work at shortening it).

As with all of you - we are devastated...and hoping for the best. I know it might look like we got in to see doctors quickly, etc. but let me tell you, my family has literally been working day and night making phone calls, and emailing doctors....pleading with them to see my mom NOW. Without doing so, we would be sitting around for months watching my mom's disease progress. It's amazing how much RED TAPE we have to deal with getting timely medical attention! Sad

Jan. 31, 06: Mom, age 63, dx w/ Stage 2 NSCLC - also has severe COPD.
Ex-smoker, quit in 1988.
History of DX:
9/27/05: sm. spot on rt lung ruled scar tissue
1/20/06 - x-ray shows mass on rt lung
1/27 - CT Scan shows tumor
1/30 - Needle biopsy
1/31 - Mom Dx
2/1 - PET Scan
2/2 - Stage 2 nsclc, tum. approx. 3cm, some lymph nodes.
2/3 - MRI on Brain, & pulmonary lung tests to determine if she can have surgery.
2/3 - Lung dr & cancer team determine surgery not possible, & rec. a combo of chemo/radiation.
2/6 - Mom goes to set up chemo schedule at local chemo treatment center. Chemo doctor disagrees with lung doctor & thinks mom can have surgery. Recommends mom see lung cancer surgeon.
2/10 - Mom sees lung cancer surgeon & he is confident that he can operate & remove the cancerous tumor. Mom agrees to go w/ surgery.
2/10 - routine EKG shows heart abnomality - tells her to see a cardiologist.
2/13 - Cardiologist rules mom has a-fib & she is hospitalized for 5 days to normalize her heart beat.
2/17 - Mom released from hospital.
2/22 - Mom given heart monitor to monitor heart the night before stress test.
2/23 - Mom goes for stress test & shortly into the test, goes into a-fib and test is stopped.
Given stronger dose of heart medicine.
2/28 - Mom back for stress test, initally in
a- fib before test starts but is able to complete test.

Tonight, we will receive the results of the stress test to make sure she does not have coronary artery disease and is deemed fit for surgery on March 8.
