I see lots of organizations helping out on costs with meds, expenses, etc...which is great. But my mother is going to have surgery ASAP, probably next week to remove cancer from her right lung, but we both cannot afford my trip down there right now. I just help getting a flight, etc...since my husband has been off work dealing with weather issues, and I want to be down there now to visit before she goes into surgery.

I don't know what to do, but anyone who know of any organization that can help right away, as far as family of cancer patients, I would really appreciate it. I don't need much, just a way to get down there since they decided to do surgery very soon.

Thanks

Some airlines will give discounted rates for medical emergencies. I also found this information:

National Patient Travel HELPLINE (800) 296-1217. This helpline lists more than 40 air transportation options for patients throughout the nation, including commercial airline programs and nonprofit organizations, such as Airlifeline, Angel Flight and the Corporate Angel Network. www.npath.org

While they are about helping patients travel, they may have some info about other orgs that can help family members. Also you can try the American Cancer Society, they may have some ideas for you.

My dad passed away last June from lung cancer, and it was hard for me since I live in a different state, and couldn't spend as much time with him as I would have liked to. I hope you can find a way to be there with your mom.
