Just a FYI for everyone.
I had a port put in on Friday, 48 hours ago and after doing some range of motion exercises yesterday and last evening, I can move my left arm without a problem today.
I'm not saying this is what you are supposed to do, but I am just saying that the soreness is almost gone everywhere except right on the port itself.
Maybe this will help someone in the future.

i hate ports
*sighs*
mine was in my chest and it was very much so in the way when i had to take a shower. also, it allowed me to taste saline ( saline tastes bad)
but thank you much on the helpful tid-bit. im sure others will find it very helpful

Be careful rotating the arm nearest to the port. my doctor said it (On rare occasions) can cause it to rotate around.
I have to keep mine in for a year after chemo.

I had a lot of pain when my port was put in, mostly from muscle tension in my neck and back. I've had it for almost 2 years, chemo done over a year ago, doctor says I should keep it for 3 years "just in case"
Biggest problem with it for me is having to get it flushed every 6 weeks. No funny tastes or anything.

The worst part about mine was getting the IV prior to port surgery. I've had no problem with it, even swimming and paddling. Feels a little weird to sleep on it (I like to sleep on my belly, which is interesting with a port and an ostomy). I experienced zero pain or problems (so far, knock on wood).

| I had a port put in 13 days ago. The implant site on chest wall was painful the first week, but feels o.k. now. However, I have intense muscle pain in upper back new shoulder and left side of back of my neck. I had an xray last fri. to check for collapsed lung or bleeding, but was negative. The pain is really interfering with my daily routine. I was prescribed tylenol codeine but really isn't giving me any relief. Anyone ever have this problem, and how long did it last.? I know the port is causing it because I came out of the anesthesia with this pain. |

I didn't suffer too much pain from mine.
What does you doctor say about it? If it doesn't get any better, I would have them redo it.

| One oncology doctor said there are alot of muscles in the clavicle area. The surgeon who put it in didn't give me an answer. He said maybe I should have a bone scan, but I know it is the port. I hate to have it redone, because it was really painful the first few days. I called the oncologist this morning to see if he thinks a muscle relaxant might work. |

My was put in 2 days ago. Hurts to swallow a little but is getting better. Neck and arm are really sore also getting better.
He put mine on the right side, never said anything about which side. |
