Hello all.
My mom was diagnosed of Adenocarcinoma July 3rd, 2008. This hard journey started with a dry cough that didn't go away. And the nightmare really started when she was misdiagnosed with her first doctor.
When we took her for second opinion two months later, the new doctor saw the X-Ray (#4 at this point) that was taken a while back that the other doctor said was clear, and said it was the exact opposite. It was worse than the others. That he would need her to spend that day in the hospital to have a bronchoscopy done and some other test to determine where the Cancer is coming from. After new tests of everything, they decided that chemotherapy needed to start right away.
Tomorrow she starts the second cycle of chemo, so far she is doing well.
We are hoping and trusting that God is taking care of her.

Hi Tica,
I'm sorry you have a reason to be here, but glad you found this wonderful site.
Have they said what Stage your mom's adenocarcinoma is in?
Your hope and trust are in a good place if they are with Him.
Thinking of and praying for you...

Hello Liz,
I don't know if you feel or felt that enough information can get into your brain at once....well, that's what happened to me. When the doctor said to me that her right lung was colapsed and prognosis wasn't very good, I thought it's all I had to know. I'd say she is in a advance stage. And I don't know yet if the cancer had spread. I heard something about her liver but they are doing an ultrasound soon.
My mom is only 48 years old and a non- smoker, and it brakes my heart to see her going through all of this. My husband and I live in US and my parents and family in Costa Rica, so it's been a challenge. I was there for three weeks when everything happened and leaving this Friday for 10 days. It's the only way I can get a better grasp of the situation. I'm the oldest in the family and decisions need to take place whenever.
I honestly think that she is in God's hands and that we can do just so much. God has the last word.
I'm praying for your mom too.

Hi Tica
Sorry to hear about your mum and another victim being so young at that...
On the other hand I would like to welcome you and indeed let you know that there are so many of us walking this path...I am sure you will find alot of valuable knowledge that will answer your unanswered questions.(should I say those questions we all forget to ask the oncologist)!
This is such a rollercoaster and I will keep you in my prayers and we await to hear which stage your mum is diagnosed.
Hope you have a good journey back home and are able to profit much time as possible with your mum...God Bless, thinking of you...Koik _________________ Husband diagnosed with stage 1V NSCLC Febuary 2007.....Lost his battle August 27th 2008 but lives on in my heart. |

JIM,
I read that you were a Chaplain, Is this correct???? Tell me about it.
Thank you for your words and remember: When you pray and ask for something, believe that you have received it, and you will be given whatever you ask for." Mark 11:24
You are in my prayers,

Yes, Tica, I was indeed a full-time hospital chaplain for a long time. I mainly worked during the evening shift which is why I know can stay up all night but fall asleep as soon as the sun comes up . Since I was the only chaplain at the hospital during my work shift, I pretty much saw a little of everything. However, I did have several areas over which I was the primary chaplain... not only responsible for the spiritual needs during my shift but all day long. And not only the needs of the patient and their families but also of the staff. One of those assignments was the Oncology Unit. I attended daily staff meetings with the nurses and a multi disciplinary weekly Cancer Review Board meeting in which cases were presented and discussed. When I was diagnosed, I already knew all of the doctors, nurses, and other staff members on a peer two peer basis which made things easier in some ways but also harder in other ways.
I am still an ordained minister in the Christina Church/Disciples of Christ.
Well, I have taken up enough space on this thread but thank you for asking. _________________ Jim

Wow Jim....nice story.
Does anybody know how bloody bowel movements are related with lung cancer?. My mom mentioned that to me but I have no idea. She sees her oncologist this Thursday.
I just came back from Costa Rica and I'm very happy because my mom is doing very well. She is eating very healthy, chemo side efects are ok and she is better emotionally. Also, the familly has accepted the situation better and now we can talk more about it.
God exists is all I can say.
