I have stomach cancer and it all started with a strange pain in my stomach that finaly got me to the doctor. The tumor is in the top portion of the stomach which is causing a narrowing of my esophogas. Eating causes a pain that is very hard to explain. It feels like when you eat to fast, sometimes I get the hicups that hurt. It is now getting to the point where drinking liquids is painful. I am hoping that once the treatments start and it shrinks that the pain will subside to a point where I can eat soft foods and drink with less pain. I am taking oxecodone for pain. I don't know if I am more afraid of the cancer or the drug to control it.

your symptoms and position of your tumor are very similar to my FIL's. He's currently being treated with chemo/rad in Cincinnati and will follow up with a gastrectomy in Cleveland in December.
FIL is struggling thru the chemo/rad right now and not really looking forward to the surgery. who would!? But we are all trying our best to be supportive.
My prayers are with you and your family at this time. Hopefully the chemo/rad treatment will help to alleviate the pain and improve your swallowing. My FIL is now eating better and gaining weight.

Pauly, I know what you mean when you say you don't know if you are more afraid of the cancer or the chemotherapy. I know that my chemotherapy in 1992 for my brain cancer was no fun. I took it for 13 months and it almost killed me several times. The year after I finished the chemo, I turned 40 and all my friends teased my about being "over the hill." I replied that I did not really care that I was 40 but that I thought God owed me a year Razz because those 13 months were a total loss. However, now, almost 15 years after diagnosis, my attitude is much different. I think I have had a great "return" (15 years) on my "investment" (13 months). I hope you too get a good return on your investment.
