Our Dr. has perscribed oxycontin for my mother who has gallbladder cancer with liver mets. I understand that there is tylenol in this drug and that is suppose to be bad for the liver? Is our dr. thinking straight or am I just paranoid? Originally she was given tylenol with codeine and then the lowest dose of morphine...but they made her very ill.

dllfb, I think you are mistake. Oxycontin does not have Tylenol in it. Tylenol 3 is a mixture of Tylenol and Codeine but it is not Oxycontin. Oxycontin (Oxycodon) is in the same family as codeine and morphine and is often used with cancer patients in pain. Hopefully, it we work for your mother.

You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for that clarification dllfb. Oxycodone HCl is the generic name for Oxycontin and acetaminophen is the generic name for Tylenol. Are you talking about Percocet? Percocet is a combination of Oxy and Tylenol.

If I were you, I would talk about this with your mother's doctor. All drugs, Tylenol included, are filtered by the liver and can cause liver damage if taken incorrectly.
